- Q:my light stopped working ( a chandalier ). It has brown wires, blue wires, red wires, beige wires, and white wires.

- U.S. house? Recent (last 50 years) construction? Not knowing how the box was wired originally presents a problem, but only a small one. Green wire ground to uninsulated ground. White wire to white wire (neutral). You'll have to guess whether to use the red or the black wire from the box to connect to the black wire from the fixture. So, take a guess, and cap the other one with a wire nut. If you're wrong, try it the other way. Just be sure to turn the circuit breaker off before wiring, or re-wiring. Or, while the power is off, inspect how the switchbox is wired. Maybe you'll see that the red wire is capped in the switchbox; suggesting that you should use the black wire. Or (more likely) the red wire is switched, and the black wire is always hot. (This would be useful if the box were pre-installed for a ceiling fan.)

- Take the black wire that is coming in to the box and pig tail 2 short pieces of wire (keep the wires the same color throughout as in use black wires to connect to black wires and white wires... )to it using a wire nut. Do the same to the white wire. For the green wire you will need to do the same if it is a plastic box or add 3 wires if it is a metal box. For the black connect 1 each of the pig tails to the brass screw for each receptacle. For the white do the same except go to the silver screws. For the ground 1 wire goes to the green screw on each receptacle and if required 1 goes to the box itself.

- Well it is defintely a 3 way switch. The fourth (green) wire being the ground. I can't tell you by the numbers, but I can tell you by the screws which wire goes where. If it does not apply to your switch you may need to go get a new one. They are inexpensive. The green, ground wire goes to the screw that is usually attached to the arms ( metal extentions that hold against the sheet rock. Now you need to find the red and black wire that are together. Look inside the box where the wires come in and you should be able to tell if the red and black are in the same sheathing. These are your travelers. The travelers need to go on the two screws that are across from eachother. One goes on the right side and one goes on the left. Does not matter which side. The last black wire, depending on which of the two 3 ways you are at is either your power or your light leg (wire going to your light). This wire goes on the last screw. Hope this was helpful.
