Q: I am replacing an outside floodlight, the cable from the house has 4 wires (black, brown, grey and yellow), but the floodlight has the standard 3 live, neutral and earth fitting. How would I wire the new floodlight.. the wiring for the old floodlight is less than a year old on a house rewire.Thanks!: Four wire power cables used to be used for 2 and 3 phase power. You would normally provide floodlight power with the use of 3 wires. How long is the cable length from house to floodlights? I would look to see what your source wire colors are and try to match those. It used to be in the USA that the red wire was used to carry the 120/240 Volts AC (50 ~ 60~ Herz). The Black wire was considered the return or negative line; and if you have a green wire it is used to put an earth ground on all the shielding, metal jackets, etc.

Q: the plug only has room for black,red,ground wire.. what do i do with the white wire: There okorder /... is a 3 wire plug used for 208 or 240v (there is no 220v in the US). It has two hots (gold screws) and a ground (green screw). A typical 10-3 cord has a black white and green white, connect the green wire to the green screw and the black and white wires to the gold screws. An L6-30 is not compatible with devices that have a 240/120v configuration that use both 240v and for 120v and need a neutral connection, for this you would need to use a 4 wire L14-30. Also be aware there are some special rules about ranges and clothes dryers, please update you question if that's what you are dealing with.

Q: If I have wired my 20 amp kitchen receptacles with 12/2 wire which only has a red, black, and ground wire, do I use the red wire for a neutral and the black as a hot?: You deffinatly need to put white tape on that red wire and to make it known as being a neutral.... The black wire is always going to be a hot in receptacle circuits...

Q: ok...all the wires in my quot;atticare encased in this silver metal casing....when i opened a bathroom wall...the wires were also like that.....at the fuse box...they all leave like that........sooooo, can i assume all my wires are encased like that? does that make them pretty safe from rodents chewing? Q: Ok You know the speaker wires that go to the back of the subwoofer? The metal part that comes out of the wire came out of the wire, and it makes a funny sound or no sound at all. How can I fix this? Also, I cut the wire and put the copper wires into the subwoofer, it works so so, any sugestions? lew: Connection to a subwoofer is either bare wires or rca type jack (male end) and are eith plug to the rca jack (female) or a screw post for the wires. From the sound of it you are using the rca type, it is is just buy a new one the are inexpensive to replace. You need to have a good solid connection for you sub. Hope this helps.

Q: I have a 2000 Mazda 626, and I am replacing the factory stereo with a Sony CDX-GT66UPW, I tried replacing it earlier and had to cut off the end plastic pieces for the original stereo wires and stripped the wires, So now I am trying to match up the wires from the new stereo with the old colors, But I don't know what color goes to what on the mazda? Q: I'm trying to hook up my second phone line. I have a red, green and yellow wire in the cable, but no black wire. Is there a reason for this? And what can I do to get the second line up and running? thx: the wire you have is designed for 1 line only. Back in the day the yellow wire was used to carry ground because ground was necessary for old circuits. Ground is no longer needed so in order to get two lines you need at least a two pair wire (meaning four wires) you might have to run a new wire unfortunately or just keep that one and run another to separate jack.
