Q: I'm replacing the door speakers in a 2001 Coupe Camaro with the factory sound system. I needed to know which wire was positive and which was negative so I bought a circuit tester. However, I keep getting the reading that both wires are positive. What could be causing this? I know the circuit tester works because I tested it on the battery terminals and it worked fine.: If you power it up, and go from one wire to ground at a time it will work, if you use the tester between the two speakers wires it will be positive both ways you hook it.

Q: I want to know what the definition is of a hot wire gauge.: A hot wire gage is a tool that tells you which wire(s) are hot meaning that they have electricity running through them. If you go to the tool store you would ask for a voltage detector. These are about the size of a pen. They light up and beep when the detect voltage. I highly recommend having one when doing electrical. There is nothing worse than grabbing a wire that you thought was powered off only to get lit up. Hope this helps.

Q: Does anyone know what the wire harness is called that runs from the chassis to the door called on a 1995 jeep gc. This wire harness includes the speaker wires, power window wires, and power lock wires. I have checked everywhere and cannot see what this harness is called.: Its called a wire harness. I beleive it is the main dash wire harness, but you wont get anywhere with that if you are trying to get one from a parts house or dealer, You just have to hit and miss at the salvage yard or digging around yourself and get lucky. But if you can trace the wires to a block connector or firewall connector you will be in luck and just tell them the location of the block where the harness is connected and you should be there, just remember all your options in you truck will have to match the options in the donor truck or the harness wont work for you

Q: How do you wire a 2 wire smoke detector directly to an alarm (no panel). The terminals are numbered 1,2,3,4 and the instructions say that 1 is for DC+ and 2 is for DC-. How do I wire an alarm so when the detector senses smoke, the alarm goes off? Thank you.: A 2-wire smoke detector? You mean one that plugs into AC? You cannot wire those into any alarm system. If you had a 3-wire (for linking multiple AC-powered units), you might be able to connect an external 120vac relay that closes the alarm contacts when the third (often yellow or blue) wire is switched on. Hardwired smoke alarms for an alarm system get a 12vdc voltage from the panel and also have a pair of dry contacts that are either normally open or (more likely) normally closed until the sensor is triggered.

Q: How do I wire with reg 5 wire T-Stat Installing a 2 ton Goodman A/C cond unit to a old Carrier Heat pump AHU with emergency heat strip.: If you're wiring a thermostat to control a conventional condensing unit (non-heat pump) and a heat pump air handler, it is no different than wiring a conventional condensing unit and a standard non-heat pump air handler. Yellow (or Blue) - Y White - W Green - G Red - R The only question would be the remaining wire. Was it used to energize the reversing valve (O terminal on heat pump thermostat)? If so, you could take that wire and tie it into the C (common) wire/terminal at the air handler. That is, if your thermostat has a C terminal. If not, the wire would not be used. I'd suggest making sure those are the wire colors being used by checking them at the air handler first.

Q: Also what are FORD RACING 9MM SPARK PLUG WIRES i would be putting these on my Bronco....what do they do....do i need them?: Spark plug wires. The Ford 9mm wires are bigger then the normal 7mm ( I think ) wires. And when you have bigger then normal wires, the wire separaters that hold the wires on the valve covers need to also be bigger, hence the wire looms. No, you don't need the larger wires until you add to the ignition system and increase it's electrical capacity. But they do look better. Probably can get regular size wires in the Ford blue, too.

Q: Why is thin strand wire better for powering car audio?: Hi welt needs to be multi stranded at least 8 awg in diameter as it is flexible and more flexible than a solid wire as work wire back and forth hardens copper wire and it eventually will break. using a flexible wire reduces the possibility of a breakage.
