- Q: It looks like rust, or a burn on a cotton rug. Oxy clean and hydrogen peroxide won't touch it
- If the stain is rust, bleaches like OxiClean won't work. Rust is oxidation, and bleaches oxidize further. You need a mild acid. If the rug is machine washable, try pouring white vinegar onto the mark. Let that sit for about 10 minutes. Then launder. If this doesn't work, try using Iron Out. You can find Iron Out at most hardware stores. Home Depot also carries it. Follow the directions on the package. Naturally, if the rug is not machine-washable, take it to a dry cleaner. - cleaning is my business, I've used all type of carpet machines and the best that I've found is the rug doctor. you can rent them or you can purchase one of them. i don't recommend you buying one unless you have a lot of carpet to clean all the time. its always best to spot clean your carpets before using a machine on them. resolve carpet cleaner is good and if you have blood stains or ink or grease try using lighter fluid that you use in lighters. be sure to blot any stain that might spread such as ink.

- There probably won't be a preparation other than cleaning, but you need to be sure the floor is pretty dry and likely to stay that way. If you have never seen water or dampness on the floor- good. If you have seen dampness, you have a potential for mildew. Be sure the carpet you buy is all synthetic. If there are any natural fibers in it, the materials will hold water and promote rot. Most carpets of today are all synthetic. The tack strip is nailed directly to the concrete. Pad is taped into place, and a few people use a string of adhesive to help hold it in position. The carpet is installed just as it would be upstairs on wood, but the labor is a bit higher. Some carpets are glued down, all that requires is a moisture proof adhesive; again- fairly normal.

- Simple solution actually has a carpet cleaning shampoo that works pretty well, I think most of the carpet shampoos are about the same. I have found that using the stuff for stains first (like resolve) and then cleaning the carpet with the machine works better and gets the carpet cleaner. Also from time to time to clean my carpets with my machine I will add a little bleach with the carpet shampoo. It does help.

- Q: I already have my carpet and padding. We purchased a whole house of like new, but used carpet at a great price for our LR and BR's and we have carpet padding. We planned to pay to have the carpet installed, but we are now completely out of money and paying someone is not an option. I know it will not be as nice or last as long, but I am wondering if we can glue the carpet down? It's just a regular mid-grade plush carpet. I am also wondering if this can be done with carpet padding or can it only be glued directly to the sub-floor? I am trying to figure out if I could staple down the carpet padding and somehow glue the carpet to the padding? Any help/suggestions on gluing down carpet with or without padding would be appreciated. Thanks!
- Carpet and a separate pad cannot be glued down . This system needs the tack strip on the perimeter. Any and all carpet can be just glued direct. Not a comfortable walk on regular carpet but it can be done. Getting the stretch on this type of carpet installation is hard for a DIY er. Glue direct commercial carpet is a different story. Plus consider what you d pay for glue ( not cheap) and reconsider having it professionally installed. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL

- Carpet is much more expensive as well. easy to clean a carpet with a vacuum cleaner.
- Q: I'm looking for a bright color rug that would pop under my taupe sectional sofa, floor is wood and the walls are white. The curtain is a solid Navy color.
