- I hope no one was hurt by the hot iron. As others have mentioned, your options are somewhat limited, with regards to a burn. Synthetic carpets tend to not only 'burn' but also melt... so its not likely that it can be shaved off...the damage will be too deep. If you have a section of this carpet in a closet, then your best approach is to have someone use that piece to 'patch' the burnt portion. The process isnt terribly difficult, but it does take some skill, and a seaming iron. Any carpet fitter that has done seams, or patterns, could do this for you. Basically, a piece (larger than the burn) will be cut out of the closet portion, then lay it over the burn (being careful to line up the fiber/weave direction), cut through both pieces of carpet with a straight edge, and very sharp knife, apply hot melt carpet tape to the edges of the hole (to the underside of the carpet, hehe), and finally, insert the patch, and heat the seams with the iron. Someone who has had practice at this can make an almost invisible patch. Another idea might be to simply toss a decorative throw rug over the burn for the time being, or rearrange the furniture, hehehe. About the only other thing to be done would be to replace the entire carpet in the room, and if the carpet is very old or worn, then that might be a good idea anyway.... it is difficult to get a good patch on worn carpet. - hi i live in ireland aswell! in the summer i leave my horse without a rug day and night! in winter i use a heavey weight rug a masta brand its very good at night i bring him into his stable and put on a stable night rug which is not heavy also masta! if you want to in the summer u can use a fly sheet which are very light and do not make the horse too hot! good luck !! : )

- Q: This must sound like a really dumb question, but...I'm still a novice with horses, and one of my stable jobs is putting rugs on the horses to be turned out.And I have quite a lot of trouble getting the rugs on, especially as the horses are 17-18 hands, and the rugs are volumus! I end up with them spilling about in my arms, and by the time the thing is on the horses back, it's inside-out! I feel such an idiot when people are watching me!I wonder if anyone here could give me some tips, especially on how to have the rug before putting it on, and how to actually get it up on the horses back in the first place, without getting in a mess.
- it is a bit of a case of trying to flip it up onto horses back, just takes practise with the big boys!!!! to do it the bhs way fold the rug in half with the tail flap on top of the neck bit, flip it onto the horses neck, well up on the neck, fasten front buckles/clips. fold the back half of the rug back into place over the bum and fix surcingles/clasps at side then any fillet string/leg straps at the back. you can tug it back a little but dont pull it back completely snug against the horses chest as th rug will pull back during the day so its good to have a bit of give to start with. this is tghe correct way to do it (albeit ithout the pinickity little bits like clipping up the unused straps etc!!!) definately before putting it on have it folded in half across the way tho - working with a half size is much easier. hold it halfway down as you flip so the momentum carries the far side of the rug over the back then use the front bit to give a bit of a tug and push to get it squared up!!!! dont worry about the people watching - nobody looks cool putting a rug on a massive horse!!!!! just practise and finding your own routine will make this job go quickly (you'll be doing it all in 30 seconds or less before you know it).

- Depending on how big your house is, it can take about half a day to steam clean wall to wall carpeting. Most companies will be able to work around furniture, but obviously it's better if you can move as much furniture as possible so that the cleaners can clean as much carpet as possible. You'll want to open up your windows after the carpet cleaning has been done to air out your rooms (and with this heat, to quicken up the drying time). If you are talking about cleaning hand made rugs, then cleaning is done off site and you generally have to wait 2-3 weeks for the professional cleaners to return your carpet.
