Q:So my carpet (40 year's of age) was torn out my bedroom this morning.And what do ya knw!! there was a beatiful hardwood floor underneath. I saw all the stains/mold on the carpet and whatnot.Before I had trobule breathing and would wake up with a headace every morning becuase of the smell. However, I can notice a slight difference in smell but not a drastic Now, I can't decide if I should get a new carpet or just live with the hardwood floor that's already there. . I still have to sweep the dust and mop. Getting a brand new carpet is expensive. But with a hardwood floor in the winter it can be a little uncomterable. Any idea's??: How about sanding and varnishing the floorboards? It can look so lovely, but it is a chore to do. Hire a sander and maybe sleep in the living room while the varnish dries. Put down a few rugs to keep it warm?

Q:ok i got a new throw rug about a month ago and all of a sudden today my cat pissed on. Hes old.the cat it i think he did i for the last week because it was damp but i saw him i know how 2 get rid of the smell but how do i break him of it? and why does he do it?! P.S the carpet does not smell like that new smell: I agree with the other posts that you should have him evaluated for a urinary tract infection. Sometimes cats will pick a place that you're sure to notice because they're in distress. UTI's are very treatable but you need to take him asap to rule this out. Also, I agree, if you can't throw the rug in the wash, then I would throw it away. Cats tend to go back to the same place to pee. I also read somewhere that rugs with a rubber backing are more likely to attract peeing cats - something about the smell. Even though we can't smell the rubber scent, I'm sure that cats can. Q:I've been window shopping for a rug online :) Has anyone got a Caribu at all? what do you think of the quality? Any rug that I like is atleast $300... but thats a bit pricey. I just cant believe the jump in price of everything since I last had a horse. She had a good quality lined canvas rug that I paid no more than $100 brand new and it lasted her yrs and yrs I think it was a Weatherbeeta and I sure wish I still had it now!: I like the Mother Nature brand of rug. It's rain resistant, costs nothing, never wears out, self-adjusts according to the weather, and if it gets torn, it repairs itself. Every one is custom fit to the horse from birth, there are no straps to break, no hair loss due to rubbing, it's the perfect protection!

Q:has any one had them out to clean your carpet and if so is it worth the money? give me some stories good or bad about them: Used them many times and they are very reasonably priced. If you aren't moving your furniture (which we didn't) make sure they put everything up on blocks so as not to stain the carpets until they dry. It's a normal procedure for them but they can mess up and your wood or fabric that touches the wet carpet will stain it. When they are done your carpets should only be damp and not wet to the touch. If they are wet don't let them leave until the carpets are only damp. Stanley Steemer is a franchise operation so not all franchises are great. I use them for a whole house cleaning but use my own steam cleaner much more often. I have saved a lot of money by owning my own steam cleaning machine which is a Bissell. I can keep up on carpet cleaning routinely as opposed to waiting until the carpets are in dire need. I would recommend after you use Stanley to buy your own cleaner.

Q:You know how bathroom rugs frequently have rubber backing on them? I was to know if there is a way to reapply the rubber backing which has fallen off and cracked due to age. The top of the rug is fine.: I have re-coated the backing, using a spray coat, in a large can, purchased at either WalMart, KMart etc. I would check on line, sorry can't remember the brand name, but there was not too many different kinds. It worked very well, not as good as the original, but I just resprayed and continued until the washing and the can ran out. good luck hope you find it.

Thanks!: Places that appraise handmade oriental rugs are often also equipped to repair them. It can be surprising what even torn rugs are worth, depending on age and quality. I moved into an apartment back in college where someone had left an old wool oriental with frayed fringe and a couple of spots worn smooth. It was pretty so I kept it for years and eventually took it to be professionally cleaned -- they told me it was worth over $1000 if it was fixed up! They charged me about $100 to repair the fringe and the bald spots and another $50 to clean it and moth prrof it (probably costs a bit more now). I used it for a few more years and then sold it for $800. The appraisers will be able to look beyond it being dirty to evaluate it so don;t worry about doing that before they see it. Please DON'T wash it with rug shampoo and a hose like the other guy suggested. That would ruin the weaving and run the colors if it is made with old vegetable dyes and would likely shrink the cotton warp and really trash it.
