I have my own steam cleaner and it's gets used constantly. Don't waste your money on scotch guard products. They are surface only and once you wipe up a spill or clean the carpet, the scotch guard is gone. Probably one of the most over rated products on the market. The main things that harm carpet are not cleaning regularly, not vacuuming regularly or choosing the wrong carpet pad.

This means that after 8 years the landlord would get nothing for the carpet as it lived out its expected life. It is true that carpet quality varies but rest assured it is likely that an average quality carpet was installed when new. Prorating a carpet is based on: age of the carpet, quality of the carpet, how much the landlord paid, and expected life. I don't think you are going to owe anything for damage to the carpet unless the carpet was still in pristine condition and even then you would not owe very much.

You may either need to remove the rug from the room, however she may pee on the floor, get her a litter box in the laundry room, or sanitize the rug very well. You could also replace the rug with something water proof, if that would work in your house. I found some symptoms of UTI in cats and you may check to see if your cat has any of them!
