- Q: Had safety inspection today. Mechanic started lifting car with out putting arms and lift pads out (center lift, arms form X under car). After driving car, couldn‘t turn wheel with out strong arming it. Got it in driveway, now leaking reddish fluid that has strong fish smell and serpentine belt has snapped. Whats going on? Could the improper lifting done this?
- The brake system is a closed loop hydraulic system. Increasing the hydraulic pressure will move the wheel cylinders or calipers to increase the brake pressure. The master cylinder is the pump that increases the hydraulic pressure. You control that buy pushing on the brake pedal.
- Q: If i gave you lift in my car , will you sit in front seat with me orat back seat?
- a gear might be slipping so its not catching the wiper to move it. I would just replace the wiper and see if that works or go up to auto zone or somewhere im sure they will check it out for free
- Q: 1997 Explorer.Strong fuel smell from outside the car, not so much inside. Only occurs after the car is running, after the car is shut off for a while the smell is no longer there.Any ideas?
- it could be a few things, i would start the car and lift the hood try to smell around the fuel injectors and lines to see if it smell stronger or if there is a leak, if a injector is leaking it will probably be a brownish color around the base, also check around the fuel cap and the fuel filter to make sure there is no leak basically just try to smell the front and rear of the car and see if you can tell where it smells the strongest and start searching there, it could also be a bad gasket letting fumes out from the fuel sending unit or fuel pump on the fuel tank.
- Q: Where on my car to lift from with my jack?
- Lift the front first from the middle of the vehicle as high as possible and put the jack stands on the frame rail, the go to the rear and do the same.
- Q: I took my car for tire replacement and my car was dropped twice from the lift. I would say that the car was dropped from a height of 4 feet. I got an incident report from the manager and now I think I should take the car to some other shop for inspection. There are no visible damages but I think dropping from 4 feet is not something that cars are made to withstand. The car was dropped twice, one time I saw it myself, the other time I only heard the noise and noticed the mechanics putting additional jacks under the car. Upon asking, I was told that they just want to be careful that the front of the car doesn‘t drop to the ground while the rest of the car is still on the lift. Now, I am not sure where to take the car for inspection and whether a mechanic can pinpoint the problems resulting from this incident. Any suggestions?
- max tire pressure is 35? most max is at least 45 you must got really cheap tires or something
- Q: Might be a silly question but still thought would ask By upward lift I mean, the car just glides on the road at about 1-2 inches when travelling at speeds of over 80-90 miles per hour How much will be the impact on stbility of the car? Is it impossible to design such cars ?
- At that speed, you want more weight on the tires, otherwise you can lose controll very easily. As far as creating the upward lift, you would be using some sort of air dam or other body modification to create that lift. To create the lift, you would be using your cars forward speed to build up that cusion of air, and that would require power. There is a point where your tires would no longer be able to put enough power to the ground (due to reduced contact patch/reduced friction) from the lift, and you would spin out. Also, the energy to create the lift needs to come from somewhere, in this case your engine, and it would not do your mileage any favors.
- Q: I know there are full lifts that will raise a car 6ft in the air but those cost 5000 bucks. I want to know if there‘s a cheap alternative to this? Maybe lifting it on jack stands? is that secure enough and will that give me enough room to remove a transmission and install another one? thanks for any advice
- Conservatives, by definition, are people that support the status quo. If you look at events that gave one group of people more freedom, of course the conservatives were wrong. By definition, they were upholding the status quo and the status quo was broken. My point is that you aren't making some revelation to the world. Anytime there is a change in history, of course the people who were upholding the status quo were wrong.
- Q: I understand basically that lifting it with a crank or hydraulic lift (usually equipped with most vehicles) is enough for changing a flat tire, but if I need to slide up under it,.what‘s the SAFEST method for getting underneath to do minor work on suspension? Need some advice here before I go and hurt myself. Thanks
- Jack stands on a hard level surface. Buy 4 of them, put all 4 under the end you are working on and block the wheels that are on the ground so it can't roll. A hydraulic floor jack is recommended, and don't crawl under the car when no one else is around. Always have a helper who knows how to operate the jack.
