Wire colours in such cables are not necessarily assigned according to a standard pattern. Before you proceed, find printed documentation -- or its online equivalent -- that clearly and definitively shows the functions of the wires by colour. If all of the wires are for audio (which is possible, but not certain), don't connect any sort of power source to any of them. If it is a USB cable, the red and black are power wires, and the green and white are for digital data. We use so called wire nuts (marrets). ,Make a joint with 2 of the 3 black wires and make a so called pigtail 1 piece of wire about 5 .and screw it onto 1 of the 2 screws.(The darker one of the 2 screws) The remaining 3 rd black wire screw directly onto the other dark screw. Do the same with the white wires.and wire them onto the lighter screws. To check if you did it right look at the front part of the plug. The newer plugs have 3 openings where you plug things in. 1 slit opening for the Hot wire.It is the smaller one.1 slit the larger one for the neutral. and the round one for the ground. If you really want to do it like a pro make sure the rounded hole is at the bottom . I hope this helps.

Q: How do you properly wrap copper wires? We have been using electrical tape and it's melting the tape. This is in a camper, and it's in the electrical box. We're using this tape because the wires kept touching and arcing off of each other...I'm guessing :/: If the wire is not heavy enough it will heat up from the amount of current through it. If there is a short circuit somewhere, the wires will heat up regardless. It may not be rocket science, but it certainly is electrical engineering.
