Q: I want to get an underground fence but i cant figure out what the difference in the wire they use and regular insullated wire. What is the difference and why can't i use regular wire instead of the wire that comes with the kit

Q: I notice my 10/100 Ethernet wire uses 4 wires (2 twisted pairs). I'm curious what each wire is used for. I understand one pair is for Tx (transmit) and the other for Rx (receive) but why does it need 2 wires for each? I assume bits of data cross on one, but what of the other?

Q: Is there really a difference between audio wire and regular house wire? If you say yes then please explain, in understandable scientific terms why, or point me to a site that can.
Yes there is a difference because a amp needs a certian amount of amps to work. You can use any kind of wire, hell u can even use a coat hanger, what happens when you use the worng guage wire is you put a strain on the device. That is why amps run hot, or pop fuses, and you wont get the full potential of the amp, shorten its life etc.
Q: I have 12/3 wire running from the breaker box on a 20 amp breaker that powers a bathroom (2 lights and 2 receptacles). I want to splice into this and run 14/2 wire into the living room to run 6 recessed lights. Is this OK to do?
No, you can't extend a 20A circuit with 14 G wire. And you can't legally downgrade the existing 12 G wire circuit to a 15 A breaker. And you can't put two wires into a single breaker inside the panel. Fastest solution? Almost all brands of panel offer a two breakers in one slot or high density option. So you can get a new thing that fits in the space of one 15A breaker but has two breakers in it and two connection screws on it. Replace an existing 15A breaker with a high density 15/15 and hook up two 15A circuits. These are also available in unequal configurations - so you could get one that had a 15A and a 20A breaker in the space of a single 'normal' 15 or 20 A breaker. In some brands these high density breakers only fit in certain (closer to the mains connection) spaces - typically the top 15 or 20 breaker spaces. Slower solution. That 15 A breaker that you wanted to put two wires on? Follow the wire from it into the attic, cut it, put in a junction box and splice your new 14 G wire in there. Then again, what else is on that circuit and will 15 A supply it all?
Q: I recently took out my old ceiling fan, and now there is a Black, Red, And White Wire hanging from the ceiling, I bought a track light that has a box with a Green, White, and Black wire in it. Which wires am i supposed to connect,It's for the light Switch, and I'm not sure when the house was built, its a Reading, PA Row house.
Black and red are both hot wires; green is ground and white is neutral. Connect the black wires together and cap off the red one. This extra wire, the red one is for a wall switch. Connect the white wires together (neutral) and the green can be attached to the frame (ground wire). This is of course if the ceiling was wired right. If it doesn't work, switch the black to red capping off the other black wire. There should be directions with the new fan?
Q: i am hooking up a wiring harness on a 2000 ford ranger and cant figure out the wires to hook up and what they are
Your friendly neighborhood auto parts store should have a wiring kit for your truck... complete with instructions and diagrams.
Q: To help clean things up and make wiring a little more simpler on my jeep i got a fuse/relay box off an old junk car. i want to wire my off road lights into this relay box but i'm not sure what size wire is in the box it appears to be either 18 or 16 AWG one place said to strip the wire and measure the wire another says measure in the insulation. i'm not sure what to do. but if it is 18 awg would it hurt to go to a bigger size after the fuse box to my lights or should i rewire the whole box?
For okorder /... Wiring gauge always specifies the diameter of the WIRING not the insulation, since the insulation thickness can vary. You would have to strip the wire and measure the bare wire with a gauge. You can also look at the printing on the insulation for the gauge. Look for something like AWG 14 etc. You can buy a standalone headlight harness that contains the relay and wiring for aftermarket lights. I would recommend running both positive and negative wires all the way to the battery for maximum current.
Q: I need to rewire my boats trolling motor wiring.. I have a 55# thrust trolling motor witch draws about 45-50 amps under a full load. I have 8 GA on hand I could use.. but would I get full power out of my motor? Does 8 gauge wire support 50 amps? It is stereo wire.. Braided copper wiring.
How long is the wire run? 8-gauge can handle 50 amps safely, but you may get an unacceptable level of voltage drop if the wire run is very long. If it's just a few feet, it should be fine. If you have enough wire, you can always use two runs. If you combine two 8-gauge wires, it's the equivalent of a 5-gauge wire.
Q: Does anyone know what color the neutral safety wire is on a 1995 suburban? The one in the ignition harness.
The yellow wire on the ignition switch harness goes to the transmission range switch (aka park/neutral safety switch) on the transmission, and then the purple wire on the transmission range switch goes to the starter solenoid.
Q: Why do some vehicles have more than one starter wire at the ignition switch?
one for the solenoid and a second for the distributor. the one for the solenoid is only active in the crank position where as the other is any time the key is in the run position or crank.
