- Q: HiI want to cover a large section of a wall at home with wire. There is a plug socket (electrical outlet) in the wall. How can I ensure that I do not drill into electrical wiring within the wall? Is there some way to scan a wall to locate the wires? Thanks.
- If the house is newer construction, it should have nail guards over the wire to prevent you from nailing into the wires. But that's should have guards. There are devices that you can use to sniff out wires inside the wall. Prices vary. Depending on how long the nails/ staples are that you are using, you should be ok just putting them in where ever, most of the wiring is pulled through the center of the studs, that gives you a nearly an inch on either side of where the wire is pulled through, if its in a 2X4 wall.
- Q: Im currently running 8 gauge power wire from my battery to my amp which is a hifonics zxi8408 i have it bridged to 2 channels so its pushing 440 watts x2 to 2 alpine type Rs. The current speaker wire im running is 16 gauge. My question is...since im going to go down to 4 gauge power wire, should I lower the speaker wire and get 12 gauge speaker wire also? What will sound the best?
- Actually YES, the speaker wire should always be twelve gauge especially if you want crystal-clear sound. And you SHOULD get 4 gauge power and ground wires as well. They sell great quality audio cables at Walmart.
- Q: I have an old house and am replacing a dimmer switch in the kitchen. The old switch is has only 2 wires coming out of the switch that are both black. From the wall 2 wires connect to the 2 black wires on the switch, one is black which I have concluded is hot and the other is red, which must be the common wire. My question is that there is a 3rd wired that is pushed into the electrical box that is capped and not being used. This wire is white. I can only assume that would be a ground wire, but why would it be white in color. Can you tell me what the coloring scheme was for wiring old houses? Now I can connect the switch and use only the black and red wire, but would like to ground it properly if possible.
- These would be normally. You should have them checked before you connect something. Black is hot White Neutral Red wires are also used for hot wires, switch legs (like to a ceiling fan), and are the second hot wire in 220-volt installations. Another useful application is the interconnect wire between two hardwired smoke detectors. A ground would be green or bare.
- Q: I know that there are wired routers, and wireless routers. Do wired routers do the same thing as wireless routers, without wireless capabilities?
- You are correct. Generally these days your typical router will have one input port (to the Internet) and four output ports, one or more of which can be connected to other computers -- while also having wireless capability. Wiring directly to the router is useful for desktops, servers, and other hardware that may not have wireless capability, while also eliminating any interference that could be associated with wireless routing, such as radio interference or downtime.
- Q: i bought a programmable thermostat, and the wiring i see doesn't make any sense. it's for central air, heating and cooling. there are no tags or labels on the wires, and it was probably installed in the seventies.there are four wires coming out of the wall, and they're screwed into four of six slots:Y = blue wireG = red wireW = green wireR = white wireB = emptyO = emptythe new thermostat has the following slots: G, Rc, Rh, Y/O, W/B, Y1. how should the old labels correspond to the new ones?
- First of all from what you are saying on how the old thermostat is wired, your furnace is wired up wrong...On the old thermostat the red wire should go to R... The white wire should go to W... The green wire should go to G... And the blue wire should go to Y... On the new thermostat the red wire should go to Rc and a jumper wire from Rc to Rh... The white wire goes to W/B... The green wire goes to G... and the blue wire goes to Y1... But if your sure that your old thermostat was wired the way you say it was then the red wire goes to G...the white wire goes to Rc with a jumper wire to Rh... the green wire goes to W/B... and the blue wire goes to Y1...
- Q: Peugeot Speedfight 2, How can i find out what colour wire is fuel? indicators? .. Would it all be shown on the wiring diagram?
- Why do no longer you get a volt meter verify the battery voltage with bike became off then commence it and re-verify the voltage if there's no substitute its the alternator, it may develop as much as 13- 13.5 The alternator on a scooter is the magneto its below the flywheel and there very high priced. you may get a multimeter for between a 5 -10 quid
- Q: Hi,I'm looking to change the outlets and the switch and light fixture in a bedroom of a home built in 1948. The outlets are original to the home I think. Will I have to fish ground wire throught to the panel box for my new receptacles? Or just install new 2 slot outlets? Why the different looking wires? Is the older wire copper with a silver colored coating to indicate being neutral or is this an old aluminum wire? The hot wire is red plastic coated and looks modern to me.
- it is normal for a house built in the late 40's --- it was thought, at that time, that the aluminum wiring was cost effective and the most up to date === it would be wise to pull new wire and that would be 12 gauge with a ground [[ two wires, a black
- Q: A 41.7-kg sign is suspended by two wires, as the drawing shows. Wire 1 makes and angle of 42.2deg with the horizontal and wire 2 makes an angle of 58.8deg. Find the tension in wire 1 and wire 2.
- To solve this, you have to find 2 equations, because there are 2 unknowns. Assume, Tension in wire 1 = T1 Vertical component of T1 = T1 sin42.2 Horizontal component of T1 = T1 cos42.2 Tension in wire 2 = T2 Vertical component of T2 = T2 sin58.8 Horizontal component of T2 = T2 cos58.8 Since the sign board is in equilibrium, the forces must balance each other. Horizontally, the horizontal components of both forces are balancing each other. Therefore, T2 cos58.8 = T1 cos42.2 T2 = (T1 cos42.2) / (cos58.8) -------------------(1) For the vertical components of the wire, both are balancing the weight of the sign. T1 sin42.2 + T2 sin58.8 = (41.7)(9.8) T1 sin42.2 + T2 sin58.8 = 408.66N ----------------(2) Combine (1) into (2), T1 sin42.2 + (T1 cos42.2)(sin58.8) / (cos58.8) = 408.66 T1 ( sin 42.2 + cos 42.2 tan 58.8) = 408.66 T1 = 215.66N Subst T1 = 215.66N into (1), T2 = (T1 cos42.2) / (cos58.8) = 308.4N Hope it is correct ^^
- Q: i have 4 wires going to a ac unit #10 wires 2 wires for each cir. and i need to know how many amps can I run with 2 #10 copper for one side of the breaker
- 10 gauge wire is rated for 30 amps unless its a long run. I'm not sure I'm picturing the right setup you're proposing in your description but if you're talking about having two 'hot' wires and two 'neutral wires' clamped together at both ends its a bad idea. It would make sense that you could run 60 amps through the wire if it was doubled up like that but because of [science] it doesn't work like that. Not to mention any electrician or inspector would be drawing exclamation points on their notepad if they saw a setup like that. If you need to run more than 30 amps just buy lower gauge wire.
- Q: And i am unsure on how to wire the speakers. Do i just splice the wires from the speakers to the corresponding wires on the harness. P.S. It is not actually in a boat, it will be connected to a 12v battery.
- U JUST RUN THE HOT(RED) WIRE TO THE BATTERY. U ALSO MIGHT HAVE TO HOOK UP THE MEMORY WIRE(YELLOW WIRE) AND THE REMOTE ( SOLID BLUE) WIRE TO THE POSITIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY AS WELL BEACAUSE SOME RADIOS WONT TURN ON WITHOUT THESE WIRES COONECTED. THE WHITE AND GREY WIRES ARE THE FRONT AND THE GREEN AND PURPLE ARE THE BACK SPEAKERS. YOU SHOULD GET THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE WIRING IF ITS GOING IN A CAR LIKE A JEEP THEN ALL U GOTTA DO IS MATCH THE COLORS UP ITS EASY . BUT STRAIGHT TO A BATTERY DO IT THAT WAY JUST MAKE SURE U HAVE A GOOD GROUND.
