- Q: just bought a brinks indoor motion sensor switch and having problems installing. the regular light switch has 2 black wires that was connected to one end and a red to the other. the white wires in the wall are already together. the motion sensor switch has black, blue, red wires and its ground wire. the instructions says not to use the red wire for single switch so confused on how to wire them.
- Hey j! Here's what you need to do: Shut off power at breaker box. Connect two blacks in box together with a wire nut. Cap red in box with a wire nut. Turn on power at breaker and carefully check which wire nut is hot. Turn breaker back off and hook hot wire(s) to black( incoming hot/line) on new switch Capped wire(s) that wasn't hot ( outgoing/load/switched leg)to blue wire on switch, Hook up ground, and cap red wire on switch. Install switch in box and turn breaker on. You are all set Mark If you have additional questions, update your question and I will check back and update my answer.
- Q: I have a carrier thermostat with red, green, yellow, white and blue wires. Bought a new honeywell, omly has red, green, yellow and white terminals. What do I do with the blue wire. Right now it is connected to rc with no jumper, but nothing works.
- This is an educated guess, even though we don't know how the furnace is wired. In many cases, the blue wire is used for C (common). Tape off or snip off the end of the blue wire and don't use it. Put the red wire on the RC terminal. Jump RC to R or RH if you have heat. Connect the other wires to their corresponding terminals. If blue is common, there's a good chance you blew the fuse on the control board (if your air handler has one) and/or you fried the transformer. That is, if you tried turning on the A/C.
- Q: What is wire Harnesses?
- A wire harnes is a set of wires that has all the conductors needed and can just be installed into something. There's a wiring harness in your car. They don't install the wires one-by-one. A harness is built for the product and is installed like any other part. There can be many branches on a wiring harnes to go to different places in the product. There may be more than one harness. There could be one for power, one for communications, etc. This is more efficient than installing separate wires.
- Q: So Ive never done wiring for my car, But my friends are willing to talk me through it. But the next time I can talk to them is next week and they kept telling me to tap into wires. but What does that mean? like, what does it mean to quot;tapinto the wires?
- Tap means to splice into a wire. To join a new wire to the middle of an existing wire. Such as joining the wire for your new driving lights to the existing wire for the normal headlights. Before getting scared about cutting and soldering. Go to the parts store and get some IDCs. Just ask the counter guy for some suitcase connectors. You lay two wires next to each other and fold the IDC over them. When you squeeze it with pliers, it will join the two wires together.
- Q: The drawing shows two long, straight wires that are suspended from the ceiling. The mass per unit of length of each wire is 0.050kg/m. Each of the four strings suspending the wires has a length of 1.2m. When the wires carry identical currents in opposite directions, the angel between the strings holding the two wires is 15 degrees. What is the current in each wire?? Im not sure what equations to use for this problem.
- Look at it this way a current I2 causes a magnetic field. if a current I1 is in a magnetic field then a force acts on it. F=I1*B*dl where B=I2*(mu0)/(2*pi*d) So the force between those two wires is given by this equation F=I1*I2*(mu0)*dl/(2*pi*d) mu0=4*pi*10power7 d the distance between them In this case I1=I2 dl which shows the lenght of the wire in the magnetic field equals 1 because you do not care about it's lenght from here on it is rather simple I hope
- Q: I am planning to wire my single sub 400rms svc to my amplifier 400rms x 1 @4 ohms. My car model is 94 mitsubishi lancer. how many AWG ( gauge) should I use? Like for Power, ground, speaker wire. I just want to have the full potential of my sub and ampli. For my 2nd question: if I decided to put a 2nd sub wired it on the same amp making it 800rms x1 @ 2 ohms. (my amplifier is a class d mono 1600 watt peak by the way) should I need to use a capacitor?Thank you
- biggest wire you can afford to power the amp...and dragon breath above drives aroud with headlights dimming every time the base hits...that is why we us caps..to keep large current draw from hitting the battery and alternator and dimming the lights....or dragon just don't have a system that will dim his head lights lol....sorry dragon just poking fun....but if i don't run caps my headlights look like strobe lights at night
- Q: What role does the neutral wire play?
- An electrical circuit requires at least two wires, whether it be ac or dc. In mains ac, one of the wires is connected to ground for safety. This is called the neutral. So the circuit will still work without the neutral connected to ground but not be so safe. The reason the neutral makes it safer is that a current will flow in the event of a fault on the hot wire and cause the protection (fuse or breaker) to operate.
- Q: I'm looking to install a ceiling fan in a fixture that recently had just a light (no idea if it ever had a fan). When I removed the old light, I found that there were three white wires from the ceiling twisted together and connected to the white wire on the light fixture, one black wire from the ceiling connected to the black wire on the fixture, and three black and one white ceiling wires just capped together, not connected to the light fixture.Any idea what the last 4 wires are? I would think that I just need to leave them alone, however, I have to replace the box in the ceiling with one that is rated for a fan, which means I need to (temporarily) disconnect them. I have the breaker turned off that turned the light off, but can I be 100% sure that power to those other 4 wires if also off?
- The three white wires are your neutral wires. the one black wire connected to your fixture is the wire coming from your switch. The white wire connected to the black wires are the hot wires. That one white wire connected to the black wires carries the electricity to the switch then feeds it back to the fixture on the single black wire. I never trust wire until I check it for voltage, even with a breaker off.
- Q: i'm building a race car out of a buick century and the tail lights wires got cut, come to find out the fuel pump ties into the talight wiring harness, i found the wires going to the fuel pump but i'm not sure what is what, there's 4 wires going to it, black, black with a white strip, gray, and pur any ideas what is what please so i can just run a switch to the fuel pump... thanks
- Where is my ground wire located on my fuel pump on 86 buick century 2.5L got 3 wire the green wire in the middle in the hot wire help pleae
- Q: Wires in the dash*Radio constant*Radio Switched*Radio illumination**please match these up with the options below**Wires on the stereo itself*Dashboard Light Dimmer Switch*Amplifier Remote or Power Antenna (Positive +)*(fuze) yellow memory (negative -)*(fuze) red 12v (positive +)if someone could please help that would be great-since the wires were replaced i cant go by color
- Car radio wire constant to stereo yellow memory. Car radio wire switched to stereo red 12v positive. Car radio wire illumination to stereo Dashboard Light Dimmer Switch. Don't forget to ground the black wire on the unit to the ground wire from the car harness. An extra ground strap to the chassis is a good idea also. If you don't have an amp or a power antenna, cap off the blue Remote/Antenna wire.
