Q: Hello, we have several plugs that have no ground wire. The electrical wire for most of those plus seem to be running through the ceiling (not accessible that I know of). There is a basement and it looks like the plugs that have been grounded are connected to a cold-water pipe. We would like to tap in a junction box in the basement, and run a new wire (that includes ground) to a non-grounded receptacle by drilling a hole through the floor. Then, run the wire externally on the wall, drill another hole right below the receptacle cover to insert the wire inside and make the connection.Is the external wire against code? Does it have to be hidden inside a wall?: Did any of you consider that the wiring may be flexible metalic tubing, better known as BX? In that case, the BX is the ground, and he doesn't have a problem! In that particular case, you need a bare wire from the ground screw on the receptical to the box, which will be metal. Normally, a ground clip is used, but if you don't have one, use the screw holding the clamp in the box. Q: I understand how to connect wires together. Black to black and white to white. I have done several electrical jobs in my own home with success. Q: I had a space heater on in a bedroom. I know, dumb idea, but it was plugged in to a power strip, which was plugged into a standard outlet. It was on for about 30 minutes. Then, it just shut off. I thought nothing of it, but when i unplugged the heater and later tried to plug other things into the power strip, the light on the power strip was on (the one that is always on if the strip is getting power), but nothing plugged in would work, even after resetting it. Space heaters operate at 120 which means the current is twice as great as at 240, therefore twice as much potential to overheat the wire. A space heater is about 1500 watts.At 15 amp service you have 1800 watts on the entire branch.

Q: i have a wired xbox 360 controller and it had a shortage in it . so i fix the shortage now the controller wont come on.i got me a new usb breakaway cord and it still wont work.how do i fix it without buying a new one: well depends on how you shorted it out now this works for a lot of corded things like keyboard wires electrical wires your gonna want to go to the inside of the wire where there shood be three wires positive negative and copper if any of these are damaged in the slightest your gonna want cut the wire in half and take their inner wires and twist both ends of the cut wire and twist them together and wrap electrical tape around them do this for each wire now only do this if an other process dosnt work or your desperate granted it does work i personally have done this with electrical cords mouse wires printer wires this process will get the electrical current flowing again so this may work with you corded controller again depends on what you did to short it out now here's the simple answer it may jus be old all controllers have an expiration date in some way hoped i helped

Q: Hello,I'm attaching a 12/2 wire to a new light fixture. The fixture has the white, black, and bare wire. The 12/2 wire also has white, black and bare wire. I've connected them together using wire nuts and then electrical tape.But the instructions say this: Helpful Hint: Attach copper ground wire to grounded outlet box.What does this mean? There was a screw that says ground on the light fixture. Do I need to attach the wire to this screw, PLUS connect the 2 bare wires together? Or can I just connect the bare wires together only?Background info: This house was built in 1998 if that helps. Also, this project is simply replacing the light fixture in a closet that I've moved about 3 feet. Just a standard light, nothing fancy.Thanks!: The black wire is the hot wire, the white one is neutral, and the bare or (sometimes green) wire is always conneted to the ground point. Connect all the like colored wires together, and connect the bare copper wire to the rest of the bare copper ones.
