If you can use resistance wire (specially made to have resistance - get some out of an old toaster, or a power resistor, or light bulb filament), that would help. If not, use the smallest diameter of steel wire you can get. You could avoid the batteries internal resistance problem by using the battery to charge a capacitor , with a resistor in circuit so that the battery voltage stays high (internal resistance is why battery voltage falls off under load). once cap is charged, It can rapidly discharge the current all at once. Use a large capacitor with a voltage rating not too much greater than 9volt. Keeping the heat concentrated will be important. maybe have your wire and fishing line on top of one brick, and cover it with another. Prewarm the bricks as much as you're allowed (light bulb?)

Q: I am adding a new electrical outlet and need to know how many volts the electrical wire needs to be rated for. I will be running the new outlet from an existing outlet This existing outlet uses a wire that reads Type NM-B WITN Ground 600 Volts. Does this mean the wire from the existing outlet to new outlet also has to be 600 Volts? I have a 120 Volt laying around but it doesn't sound like I should use that one. Am I right? Thanks!: Use #12 wire. Most outlets in a home are wired to a 20 amp breaker and this is the correct wire size. 14 gauge wire is used for lighting circuits.

Thanks for your timepb4sc: National electrical code calls for a 20 amp circuit for a laundry room.This circuit is for the laundry room outlets only. The 20 amp circuit is run on #12-2 gauge wire. If the dryer is gas you can plug in washer and dryer on this circuit no problem. If the dryer is electric ,you have to run a # 10-3 gauge wire for it.The electric dryer will need a 2 pole 30 amp breaker. Always other ways of doing things but this is the correct way.Good luck.

Q: Hello,I'm attaching a 12/2 wire to a new light fixture. The fixture has the white, black, and bare wire. The 12/2 wire also has white, black and bare wire. I've connected them together using wire nuts and then electrical tape.But the instructions say this: Helpful Hint: Attach copper ground wire to grounded outlet box.What does this mean? There was a screw that says ground on the light fixture. Do I need to attach the wire to this screw, PLUS connect the 2 bare wires together? Or can I just connect the bare wires together only?Background info: This house was built in 1998 if that helps. Just a standard light, nothing fancy.Thanks!: The black wire is the hot wire, the white one is neutral, and the bare or (sometimes green) wire is always conneted to the ground point. Connect all the like colored wires together, and connect the bare copper wire to the rest of the bare copper ones.

Q: I have a 15A 120V circuit that has a ceiling light controlled by an end-of-run-switch. At the switch box there is the ground wire, black wire and the white wire which is colored black.I would like to install an outlet between the ceiling light and the switch that would also be controlled by the switch. Can this be done, and if so, what would the wiring arrangements be?I have good access to where I want to install the outlet and could change or replace the wire between the outlet and the switch. Changing any of the rest of the wiring would be a real project though.(As to my own abilities here, I've done a lot of straight-forward barn type wiring on my farm (outlets, 3- and 4-way switches, etc.) and understand what the black-colored white wire means in this situation. But I wouldn't presume to wire a house.)Thanks!: You will have to pull a neutral wire as you have none in the light switch as the black colored white wire is the return hot wire. If you could somehow get to the fixture you could pull your neutral from it.
