Q:Hi all :)I am looking in to re-wiring a house that has not been re-wired since the 50's. I have been looking at the electrical system where the wires are external to the wall, but in trunking. Does anyone know how much that would cost and if there are any negatives, apart from the aesthetic elements?
As Mr.rhsaunde alluded to, this is a pretty wild idea. However, one wants what one whats. Price will be determined by the cost of the wire and the other materials you'd use, at the time in which you start the project. Not only would this external wiring be, in my opinion, sort of funky (no offense) I would think that it might actually be imposing on you living space. Obviously not a hole lot, but a little none the less. Just make sure that you do everything to code. That is if you'll be having it inspected. I suggest doing so. The government wants your money. If you try to get by them they can not only make you undo all that you've do, they can also fine you heavily as well. I would assume that you will have to use wire-mold or a similar products. I have wired many new houses and I have never heard of trunking. Maybe I'll look in to it. I personally would have to oppose to your idea. On the other hand I say go for it if that's what you want. Good luck.
Q:I can't seem to find this answer anywhere on the net, but does anybody know what gauge electrical wiring is code in home construction in Minnesota? I heard 12 gauge, but I believe my home built in 2003 was done so with 14 gauge. When doing some electrical work in my home in 2004 with my father-in-law, our local Menards also said 14 gauge was code at the time, at least that's what we heard. I just had another contractor over to help finish our basement off, and said code was 12 gauge.
It depends on what size breaker the wire is fed by. 14 is a 15 amp limit, 12 is 20 amp. Typical lights are 14 wire, receptacles are 12.
Q:I was sitting in my living room, when I heard a loud POP. A couple minutes later, I went to the refrigerator and seen that it wasn't working (no power). I checked the fuse box, and there is a fuse blown. I tried to reset it, but it just makes a loud pop noise, and flips. It will not reset. There is nothing plugged into those outlets other than the refrigerator and our water dispenser machine. These same two things have been plugged in for years, without any issues. Is this most likely a short somewhere in the wiring?
If the fuse in the fuse box is blown it is telling you that something along the line is shorting out and dangerous. I would remove the mains fuse and then check the wiring and plug for any damage. Check the fridge where the wiring enters for fraying or any damp. If you cant find an obvious fault get an electrician and on no account put a higher mains fuse in !!
Q:I need to know where the park and ILL wires go on the stock stereo. I am trying to install a kenwood cd player and I have thoses extra and dont know where to put it
The Park wire is used on DVD systems to prevent running the video unless the vehicle is in park . The illumination wire connects to the illumination wire to dim the lights on the head unit
Q:How many squares of wires are used in ten
With a certainly no problem, but with four minimum also about 6A, and the other if the power to the camera is too long, then the line loss is too large may not work, the four monitoring head away from the proposed independent power supply
Q:If anyone could answer this and provide a source I would appreciate it.
As long as the wire is intact, it will conduct. The ability to conduct electricity will be interrupted the moment the molecules of the wire separate, from heat if the fire is hot enough to melt the conductor, and cause a breach in the conductor. Current flow stops, no circuit.
Q:What is the color of the three-phase electric line?
The depth of the poles is determined by the height of the rods and the geological conditions. In general, the depth of the buried is 0.1 +
Q:I am replacing the exhaust fan in my bathroom. On the joist where I will be attaching the unit, there is a black electrical wire running along the joist. On the old fan, I think the wire either pinned between the joist and the box or sitting on the top of the box. The new fan has a taller height, so I don't think I can let it sit on the box. What should I do?
You have 2 basic chooses. You can move the fan far enough to avoid the wire, or you can move the wire enough to avoid the fan. The shims suggested by other answers sound like the best option.
Q:I am trying to wire up a tree light. All that comes out of the light is a Black White, and Ground wire. The instructions say you are supposedddd to install a Conduit and conduit connector which i dont have or really know what is. Can i install it without one. (AKA could i just splice it to a cut extension chord that also has a white black and ground?
No, it's never ok to cut an extension cord and splice it into a light especially without a raintight junction box on an outdoor circuit. The only way that you could safely install this without conduit would be to connect a junction box to the nipple on the light in a manner that would provide a watertight seal, then to connect UF wire to the junction box using a similarly raintight connector and run that wire along a path that would not put it at risk for damage by foot traffic, pets, or landscaping equipment to an existing power source or electric panel, then connecting the UF wire to that box using a raintight connector and connecting the hot, neutral ground, and earth ground wires to the correct wires or terminals in that box. However since you don't know what conduit is, I would strongly urge you to not take this project on yourself. You're dealing with line voltage outdoors in your yard and that's a risky situation. You or someone that you live with or your pet could get electrocuted (as in dead kaput goner) when moisture is present in your back yard. If you need to light a tree, you might consider just one or two of those $5 floodlights with the plastic stake that you stick into the ground and then run an extension cord to. The type of light that you have is made to be hard wired by an experienced electrical professional.
Q:1) I want to install a ceiling light fixture (chandelier style) but I don't have a ceiling outlet box. 2) I want to convert the chandelier to a lamp that gets plugged into a regular outlet, so I have a) the chandelier w/ it's own cord (meant to be attached to the ceiling box) and b) 20 ft of regular cord attached on one end to a quick clamp plug.3) On the 20ft regular cord, and I can tell on this cord which wire is hot b/c one side is smooth (hot) and the other side is ribbed (neutral). Unfortunately, the cord from the chandelier itself is SMOOTH on all sides and is not marked white/black, smooth/ribbed, hot/neutral or with any other indicator that would allow me to tell which side is which. Hence, I don't know which chandelier wire to attach to which cord wire. Please help!
Use a test lamp or continuity meter, (use the ohms scale), on the chandelier to find which wire is connected to the shell, (outside part), of the sockets. That's the one that gets connected to the ribbed, (neutral), wire on your plug cord set.
