- Q:Have any of you had a newer Kirby vacuum cleaner (the one the representatives say cleans all the way to the bare floor) and could you compare it's performance to other quot;storebrands? I'm not really interested in value (I know they are terribly expensive) but want to know if they really do clean as advertised. I moved into a new house with some dirty carpets and a friend of mine offered to let me borrow her Kirby vacuum cleaner with built in carpet shampooer and I want to know how well it will clean. Is the shampooer equal to one I could rent at Wal-Mart or another store? Thanks for the help!
- I thought Kirby's were fantastic until I used a new $300 dollar Hoover at a friends house. The Hoover was much, much more powerful and cleaned in one pass. It also weighed about 1/4 of the Kirby (those of you with stairs know what I'm talking about). I've changed my mind, Kirby's are extremely overrated.
- Q:How do vacuum cleaners work?
- The electricity operates the motor. The motor turns the fan. The fan takes air from underneath the vacuum cleaner and directs it through the dust collection bag. At the same time the brushes turn and flick up the dust/dirt into the stream of air going into the vacuum cleaner. The dust bag is a filter with small holes in it. The dust sucked into the bag is bigger than the holes so stays in the bag.
- Q:Ok so our Dyson hoover has finally given up. We want a new hoover that isn't as heavy as a Dyson. We tried the smaller Dyson's today but they aren't powerful enough because we have 2 pets you see. So we tested the HOOVER DM6228 and that seemed ok. Any reviews or any recommendations of vacuum cleaners? I live in Britain by the way.
- My wife LOVES vacuums (we've owned a lot!). The best by far has been the Oreck. Lightweight and it cleans well. Our Dyson crapped out after only a year and my wife never liked it anyway (too heavy)
- Q:Toy vacuum cleaners, mops, pretend kitchens and stuff like that?? Isnt that kind of wrong? Seriously.
- I don't think so...my daughter (she is 7 now) when she was younger, like 2 or 3, always wanted to help around the house. She insisted! I got her then those vacuum cleaner and the kitchen for little girls and she really enjoyed playing with them. They were safer anyway although now, I have to ask her to do something around the house...... They are children, they want to experiment.
- Q:I just purchased a Dyson DC 24 vacuum cleaner. The power cord is ridiculously short (claimed to be 20'...don't think so!) Some rooms can't be completely vacuumed with just one plug in to a receptacle. I'm thinking of replacing the existing cord with a longer one (30'). Is this something I can get at the local hardware store, Home Depot, etc? What gauge cord is required?
- Extending the cord is flirting with a UL issue, but that being said, you might have a problem getting a cord the same style as the existing cord, but rubber cords (SOOW, SJOOW, SO, or SJ) are available in the bulk wire section, I would stay away from plastic types (STO, SJTO,SVT, SJT). And use one size larger that the existing cord, (smaller number = larger wire), because longer wire will suffer more voltage drop. Edit: Another thought occurred to me, you could shorten your cord, to like 18 and use a make an extension cord the length you need, and zip tie the end of the extension cord to the vacuum.
- Q:Is there a term for phobia of vacuum cleaners?
- Zuigerphobia
- Q:is it elek trend or eurflow or dose any body know better
- Have a Nutone for 30 years.
- Q:I've been working on a couple projects in one room in my house. The room really needs to be vacuumed but there is aquarium gravel scattered around as well as a bunch of tiny screws. I have a shark vacuum. There's no threat of puncturing a bag because this vacuum doesn't use a bag - it uses a canister. I could easily empty the canister and then go over the floor with the hose. I'm wondering if it's an ok idea though because I don't want to damage anything in the vacuum. Occasionally, my battery powered aquarium vacuum will suck up a couple pieces of gravel, they'll get stuck, stop the vacuum, and I have to get them out for the vacuum to work again. I don't know how house vacuums work, but I don't want that to happen. If there aren't any mechanical components to be damaged, then I guess the only other worry would be the hose, but the hose on this vacuum feels pretty sturdy, and I would just be vacuuming tiny gravel and tiny, corroded screws - nothing sharp like tacks or nails. What do you guys think?
- really?...really?
- Q:Hi there - I've been given an OLD Elextrolux vacuum cleaner (a canister one) that seems to have lost some suction...and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to get it fixed? I do realize this is more of an opinion question...My main concern is not spending as much $$ to get this vacuum fixed as it would to buy a new vacuum! Thanks.
- odds are you would have trouble finding the replacement parts...
- Q:Who vacuums in the dark??
- I think its so you can see when u r cleaning places with little light such as closets with no light and under tables and couches and stuff
