- Q: I have never bought a hoover or a vacuum cleaner and need some recommendations. Dont want to spend too much money on it. Will mostly use it to vacuum my carpet. Please provide links for recommendations.

- my daughter has one and would'nt be without it. she has a large home with mostly tile, some carpet in the bedrooms. She has 2 cats and a dog and her house is spotless. Only probem she has is finding it sometimes.
- Q: What kind of power inverter can handle a house vacuum cleaner?
- A BIG one. It should be rated to deliver at least 2500 watts continuously. Such an inverter would be very costly, and run even a very large battery down very quickly. A generator rated for 2500 watts or more would be much easier, and probably cheaper, to feed.
- Q: I am planning to get a now dog. Preferably a small breed, and it will be indoors allot. My house is really big. MY question is , will it be a problem if my house is almost always messy? there is allot of trash lyeing around all over the place, bits of paper,cloths hangers, cloths, other trash, toys. Will this is a big deal. I assume it would, but exactly how clean should I be for the new dog ? What kind of stuff is a absolute must to avoid having lying around in the dog's reach ?
- Puppies will pretty much eat/chew on everything. Any trash should be picked up. Clothes that you don't want torn also off the floor. The more stuff on the floor the more likely you will not be able to see if the puppy goes potty inside, and that's pretty gross.
- Q: Are they worth the money? Do they really clean the air?
- I have had my Rainbow for about 4 years now and I love it! Yes - they are pricy are highly touted as the vacuum cleaner. I don't know if they clean the air or not - but I do know they pick up a lot that other vacuums leave behind! I'm sure that if the bag of most any vacuum exposed the dirt dust they pick up and then put that in water - you'd see a lot from most any vacuum. I can certainly attest to the fact that when I look at my carpets think they're not in bad need of vacuuming - after I vacuum - wow! They were much more in need that I realized. Also, you can put freshners in the water it does create nice smells through the house without saturating it. You can oils or liquids in the water to accomplish this. I don't know of the rust issues that others have addressed because I do emply mine after each use.
- Q: That has good suction that is under $100? I assume the Dyson would be good but they are 220 and 270 dollars. I don't want one with weak suction.

- Depends on the useage.They put out steam and suck it back up with dirt. Problem is too much steam may cause mildew in a carpet. Another type uses a water cannister instead if a bag. They are excellent because dirt dust goes into the water to be tossed out instead of filtering back into the air as conventional vacs do. Believe not recent TV ads. they are not the origional nor the best. I have had a better one for many years.
- Q: I've owned a number of upright bagless vacuum cleaners, and they have all sucked (well, they've actually all stopped sucking to be precise). The Dyson claims to never lose its power, but its also 5x more expensive than the average upright. Is it worth it?
- I recently bought a Hoover Fusion Cyclonic Upright Vacuum, Model U5180. It's actually proven to be 13% better cleaning than a Dyson, lasts just as long, and is only a little over $100 at WalMart. No filters, on board tools. I love it!

- given your level of knowledge about vacuum cleaners my best advice would be throw away the broken one and buy a new one. But let's say you decided not to take that advice. Then take the broken machine to a professional repairman. Let's say you didn't want to do that either. First let me warn you again that one of the first two solutions are your best bet. So you can't afford a new vacuum cleaner or to pay someone else to fix it. Ok. Unplug it from the wall. Check the plug and power chord carefully. Look for anything broken or bent. Replace any broken, bent or worn parts. By the way, make sure the outlet is functional. Take something you know is working and plug into the same outlet. If the working item does not work in that particular outlet then the outlet is broken. If the forgoing did not fix the machine then you really, really need to go with the first or second suggestion. If you can't then you have to open up the machine and see if you can find out anything wrong with the innards. Before doing that, check the vacuum hose, intake and filter. Make sure that none of these is clogged or broken. Replace any broken parts and clear any clogs. If you have to open up the machine then we are out of my depth. Yes I could tell you that after you make very, very, VERY, certain that the damn thing is not plugged into the wall, use a volt ohm meter to check the continuity of the wires and replace any broken ones. But if you don't know what a volt ohm meter is, you need to give this project up before hurt yourself.
