- Q: I would like to build 4 steps on a incline. It is above a retaining wall but will be a good foot away from the wall all on firm packed dirt. I have a couple questions. One side of the steps would be next to the garage wall.1. Can I pour cement up against the cinder wall?2. If so how would someone build steps form without any boards against the one side. So basically just have the one side and front plate.3. Or would you recommend having a board against the wall. Or pull it out after the form has set?

Anyways, what is the correct process for installing cement backer board in a shower? Do I just screw the boards right into the studs, or do I have to first put down another thin barrier sheet (like some waterproof material), then the cement backer board, then another waterproof sealant, then I can install the enclosure? I just want to do this right the first time and not leave any steps out of the process. I would hate to develop another moisture leak and then find out that my barrier did not hold up well. - Q: I have Joint Compound and cement board tape, How do i fix a 6 inch hole in drywall? Anything else I Need?
- Stuff the hole with balled up newspaper first. Otherwise your tape will not hold well. A better way to fix a hole that large would be to pick up a scrap of drywall, cut the hole square to the center of the studs on either side, attach the patch, and tape and mud the seams. Good luck.
