- Q: What does ABEC for skateboard bearings mean?
- ABEC stands for Annular Bearing Engineering Council and it is a rating of how good bearings are. Basically the higher the number after ABEC-, the better the bearing is supposed to be. The scale goes ABEC-1, ABEC-3, ABEC-5, ABEC-7 and ABEC-9. Bones Bearings (Swiss, Ceramic) are Skate Rated and are basically better than most of the bearings rated on the ABEC scale.

- There really isn't that much difference between bearings. Mission won't want to get a bad rep by making bad bearings for their main customers. The price is probably a little higher than other bearings (without an OEM skate maker's name on them) than equivalent bearings from the top companies (Twin Cam, Zero Drag, Bones).

- Q: OK, so our ball bearings on our 2003 Hyundai tib went out pretty bad!! We bought new ones from auto zone and replaced them, within a week the bearings were destroyed again, so we brought our car to the base auto shop. The told us the bearings we bought were bad. They replaced them and we just spent $405 for them to replace them, put a new tire on and to do an alignment. We picked up the car monday! It is now only Thursday, 3 days later and the car seems to be making a grinding sound like it was before the 1st time the bearings went out. What are the odds we got 2 bad bearings? We do know that eventually the axle needs to be replaced but 2 mechanics have told us that it will be months before it NEEDS to be done! I just don't understand. The car is in fair condition and worth around 3,9500 as a trade in. We will prob. just trade it in soon bc it's not worth it. Has anyone else had this problem!??
- there are things to consider here. like are you getting them in straight and if they are tapered bearings they have to be packed before installing them and if they are adjustable maybe your adjusting them too tight.
- Q: I have a 1992 Camaro RS, LO3 305 TBI V8, Automatic, 125k miles. It had the oil changed awhile ago, not sure what they put in it, but when I picked it up, the engine was ticking (sounded like a lifter or failing oil pump). I've driven it a few thousand miles and it runs good and strong, but I've always noticed that the oil pressure guage reads low, between 5-25 psi. I'm concerned my bearings are shot. It normally starts up at 25psi and after driving 10-20 minutes, it reads 5-10 psi, and the ticking becomes slower. The engine never kills though. Could it just be a case of a bad sending unit, with to light of a weight of oil, or bad bearings? What are some common signs of bad bearing? The motor does not knock.
- if your bearings are bad your engine would be knocking and would soon stop. it sounds like your bearings are worn which would give you low oil pressure. I would run the oil made for older engines that have wear like yours.and by the way try not to beat it to much it'll last a little longer

- No,the bearings need to come out so you can first clean the crank journal and second measure the dia.of the journal on the crank and the block to see if you have any wear and what size bearing to go back together with,either standard or an oversize bearing.

- Q: I took my Expedition to the dealer to check he alignment..... they told me they could not do that because the wheel bearings (all four) needed to be replaced. I took it to two other mechanics.... they said maybe only two needed to be replaced. I didn't ask these other mechanics about the alignment.
- If the bearings are bad your vehicle is not alignable due to that fact. The play or looseness in the bearings can be enough to cause the vehicle to not be within the alignment specifications. If there is enough play in the bearings or one is staring to fail to the point of having excess friction that can cause irregular tire wear as well as a steering pull. The bearings once replaced are not a factor for the alignment. You may find that with the bearings replaced that you do not have any pull or tire wear. It is not necessary to align the vehicle after having the bearings replaced but it would not be a bad idea. If you have not had the alignment done recently you should go ahead and have it done too just to eliminate any tire wear or pull issues.
