Q: hey...im kinda confusedis cochlear an artificial valve???and if not..what is an artificial valve??
The cochlea is the auditory portion of the inner ear. A cochlear implant (CI) is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. The cochlear implant is often referred to as a bionic ear. An artificial heart valve is a device implanted in the heart of a patient with heart valvular disease. When one of the four heart valves malfunctions, the medical choice may be to replace the natural valve with an artificial valve. This requires open-heart surgery.
Q: I am 16, and i have a leaky heart valve. What makes it worse so i can try to prevent from it getting worse? please help.
It would be very helpful to know which valve is involved. At your age a bicuspid aortic valve would be the most common congenital heart lesion. Regurgitation tends to increase over time no matter what is done. There is nothing that you will be able to do to prevent this from getting worse if that is the nature of the valvular abnormality. If you provide me with additional information I may be able to offer a more thorough and thoughtful response. I wish you the very best of health and in all things may God bless. JR
Q: For instance, I am buying some new tires that don't have the valve stems on them, so could I remove my existing valve stems from my used tires onto the new tires? Is this recommend at all? Is it safe? Is it possible? Can this be done? why or why not? thank you.
I am having some problems understanding your question. Valve stems go in the rim not the tire. It is always advisable to replace the valve stem when replacing tires. Be more specific an we can give you a better answer.
Q: I have mitral valve prolapse and I don't get why only some people get chest pains? and what causes people to get chest pains with M.V.P (mitral valve prolapse), like me. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
With MVP, your mitral valve is smaller due to extra tissue. This makes it a little bit harder for blood pumping through the valve to get through, which can often times cause an aching pain. As far as I've seen, this is not life-threatening and the pain can be treated with over-the-counter painkillers. Imagine you kink your garden hose while it is running. The water can't get through the hose and the pressure builds up. When you unkink the hose, the water flows freely. Your mitral valve has a permanent partial kink or blockage. The blood behind that partial kink can get blocked up and cause pressure in your chest. Be sure to get regular check-ups with your doctor, just to be sure your MVP is stable. Your doctor will also be able to suggest some pain remedies.
Q: When i went to the cardiologist a few months ago, i remember him saying that my pulmonary and tricuspid valve were leaky, and i think he said they were a 1 on a scale of 1 to 4 which is minor and of no concern. but i have valve problems in my family and i got thining about it. anybody know what this scale is called/have more info or was it something he just made up to tell me that it was minor?
I have a leaky mitral valve. Yes, the degree of regurgitation is usually assessed by echocardiogram and is graded on a level of 1 to 4 or + to ++++ with 1 being minor and 4 being quite severe. Generally, surgery isn't required unless you are in the 3-4 range, but everyone is different. In ten years, mine hasn't progressed any, so hopefully you will have the same luck.
Q: Ok so i am 16 years old, and i have Aortic stenosis, bicuspid aortic valve, aortic regurgitation and an Enlarged aorta. I am soon going to be getting an aortic valve replacement. I am just wondering what happens before and after the surgery and how long i will be in the hospital, how long in the ICU, what kind of tubes/machines will i need? any information will help. thanks :)
They will probably do a tissue valve replacement so there would be no need for life long therapy of blood thinners. As for the post op. Our hospital recovers heart surgeries right in our cardiovascular intensive care unit. We do not reverse anesthesia, we let our patients wake up on their own. Because of this, we have them on a ventilator until they wake up and are functional enough to breath on their own. We also monitor things very invasively, so there are a lot of lines. We have a Swan Gantz catheter which measures the pressures in the heart, an ART line, which measures your blood pressure internally, and an I.V. that goes directly into your heart called a central venous line. Usually after you wake up from surgery, if all your pressures look good, we start to take out those invasive lines and we get you out of bed. Most of our patients are in our unit for 1-2 days if all goes well. Then we transfer them up to the telemetry floor for a couple of days and then we send them home. Valve replacement surgery is still a major surgery but we do them every day and the majority of our patients come out of surgery just fine and are home in a week.
Q: instead of just buying a replacement, is there an easy way off the valve to check if it's still good?
dio, yes, if your sprinkler control valve is not opening a zone valve in the automatic mode, then manually turn the solenoid on the zone valve counterclockwise, it sprinklers come on , then you have confirmed a bad solenoid. these can be purchased seperately or another oprtion is a complete zone valve dio, well, if water is flowing thru then the solenoid is not sealing on the zone valve body itslef. unless there is debris between the solenoid washer and zone valve body, then sounds like a bad solenoid...
Q: does a 1975 chevy pickup 2wd has a proportioning valve? If so how does it work and the signs it is bad? my truck has disc/drums brakes?
Yes they do go bad! It sounds like that is your problem. You can try bleeding the proportioning valve with a brake bleeding gun, making sure to open every valve then re-bleed the brake system this will eliminate the possibility of a air bubble in the proportioning valve. I have changed probably ten or twelve of these things in my ventures.
Q: hi i just found out i have micro valve i and have allmost 30 years with willam sydrome any doctors know more what can happen what dose walking or others got to do with the valve will i stand for a longtime walk jump will one side get weeker then the other what about my hands and eyes my knees what will happend over the years when i get older ?
I think you mean mitral valve prolapse. I have this. When I was younger I had a heart murmur and did several testing and nothing else became of it. Until recently when I was working out, I had pain in chest that didn't quite go away and went to the dr. and did some testing and diagnosed with MVP. Do not drink decaffeinated drinks b/c it will increase your heart palpitations. You can also be prescribe a medication to help with your palpitation. It's a beta blocker medication. It helps with your heart palpitations, but you should definitely go see another dr. if the dr. you're seeing is not very helpful or see a cardiologist. I was told to just go about doing normal activities.
Q: I have a 97 ranger 4.0L that takes 10w-30 and I'm going to be changing the oil soon. It has some valve clatter I'm just wondering if I can use a thicker oil such as 15w-30 or maybe a 10w40?
10W40 works fine. That's all I've ever run in my Explorer - and presently it has just under 200,000 miles.
