- Q: The timing belt in my 93 honda accord went out going about 45mph,i then paid someone 150 dollars to put in the new timing belt and it began to shake and he told me that the valves were bent.....i went to a local mechanic and he told me that the valves in honda accords dont bend...is this true?and how much is an average cost to repair the valves and pay someone to do all this?can i do it myself?
- hey, the same thing happened to my car ok, you can fix it but it will take you a lot of time first, you will need to remove all the components such as alternator, exhaust headers , intake and head cover since you paid to get the belt put on, go ahead and mark it with a white out pen so you know where each tick mark goes and you dont have to pay again now you will need a deep 14 inch socket and a torque wrench ( can be borrowed from autozone ) now remove the 14 bolts carefully and lift the head straight up now that you have the head out, it is a good time to replace the head gasket as well take the head to a local machine shop and have it rectified now in a closed area remove the valves and valve covers and put in new ones then its just a matter of putting everything back together I wish I could help you cuz I know it sucks when this happens But go ahead and buy the Chilton book at your local Autozone and it has step by step instructions I took me about a week the first time I did this, and i was just a novice trying to avoid big charges :)
- Q: What is the best procedure to check/adjust valve clearances? This engine is a perkins diesel inside of a cat generator. I know that he exhaust valve is .018 and the intake valve is .008.
- take off the valve cover....you might also want to remove the glow plugs if you have trouble turning the engine over by hand. now make sure that the valve you are checking is completely closed by turning the engine by hand till you see the rocker arm to its highest level.....then slide your feeler gage between the rocker arm and the valve stem.....adjust if necessary.
- Q: does anyone know how much work it would take for a 1998 Mazda 626 (2.0L MFI DOHC) to change a bad intake valve?what work would be necessary and what kind of price are we talkin?
- What diagnosis gave you the fact that you need a cvalve changed...dis you not replace the timing belt and it bent the valves(major head repair) or did you do a compression check to determine you have bent valve (intake valves don't burn) (lesser repair)
- Q: When my son was three I switched Dr's for him. The new doctor said has he always had a heart murmur I said no that's the first I've heard of it so we went for test. Anyway heart specialist did all tests said my son had Bav a valve disorder in the heart. He said it is very common. However everyone I've ever talked to has never heard of it. My question is does anyone have this what is your story and have you had to have your valve replaced. My son is very healthy active I'm just worried. Any help would be greatly appreciated....thank you!!
- A bicuspid aortic valve is not necessarily a problem - a normal aortic valve has three cusps, and your son only has two. Having only two cusps is not a big deal. The mitral valve in the heart naturally has only two cusps, so three cusps are not needed for a heart valve to function. The advantage of three valves is a slight increase in efficiency, but the difference between a normal valve and properly working bicuspid valve would only matter to a professional athlete. If the aortic valve closes almost completely, there is nothing to worry about. Since he has a heart murmur, its possible that it is caused by having only two cusps, but people with three cusps commonly have murmurs. There is no reason to get the valve replaced simply because of only two cusps. What matters is the level of aortic valve regurgitation. If regurgitation is not significant, your son has a normally functioning heart. Even if he had a moderate or high amount of regurgitation, it still might not have enough effect to warrant surgery. There are tests to measure regurgitation.
- Q: Pressure relief valve on boiler is dripping.Starts to drip more when the boiler is turned on.Bad relief valve?
- Yes you have a bad relief valve. The reason it drips more when the boiler is on is due to the amount of pressure and flow of water. These units typically dont rust depending upon the material of the housing. But they do fail there are o-rings internally on these relief valves. I would assume that you have an o-ring that is failing.
- Q: Or is our money stinky? is the $59 we paid not equivalent to that paid by xbox360 ps3? Please help!! I am sick of getting killed every 5 minutes. Is VAC false advertising?
- VAC takes time, it's not instant. That, or you suck.
- Q: Can a clogged EGR regulator valve cause my car to stall out and die when it's idling at red lights? If I give it a little has it wakes the car up and keeps it from dying. One mechanic told me it was clogged up and that it can cause that issue. My boss says there's no way that's the problem... I say we've fixed cleaned or replaced just about everything else...Is this true or is the mechanic just trying to pocket a bit more $$??
- IT is stuck open causing a big vacuum leak into the intake manifold. Remove it and look for the carbon or chunk that is caught in the valve. TIP: often simply removing the chunk of carbon is all that needs done no need to replace the valve. Followed by using the replacement gasket that contains a screen made just for the purpose of preventing that from happening again.
- Q: I'm taking a pipe fitting class and I can not find witch valve had the most restriction.
- A globe valve has a lot of resistance (restriction) even when it is open A metering valve has adjustable restriction but i am thinking that that is not what you are asking.... A gate valve or ball valve has less resistance (a ball valve has almost none).
- Q: I just bought my first bike in 20 years, and as a result have had to pump up a bike tire for the first time in 20 years. I was dazzled to discover a type of tire valve that I'd never known about. The Presta. So of course, I need a pump with a special adapter, I didn't know to unscrew that nut at first so I accomplished a whole lot of nothing for awhile, and once I did open the nut, the pump kept slipping off the tire once I got anywhere near the tire' recomended PSI until I awkwardly held it in place while operating my pump with one hand, which of course meant less leverage and so while I got above the min recommended PSI, I couldn't get anywhere near the upper end of the spectrum. Why would anyone use these ridiculous contraptions? The fact that they are used means there must be some rationale. A brief internet search seems to find more forum posts with people saying the alternative (Schraeder) valves are more reliable and don't leak as much either.Educate me!
- There have been three major types of valves used on bikes, Presta, Schrader, and Dunlop. The Dunlops are rarely used anymore. The advantages of Presta valves are a thinner threaded body, longer length, and the valve is designed to prevent accidental deflation with the screw tip. The Schrader is standard on car and motorcycle inner tubes and tubeless tires and is the most commonly used on most bikes today.
- Q: So outside we have a gas grill. There is a valve to turn when you want to use it. U can only hear the gas going when u turn the burner knobs but say u left the valve open and no knobs turned at all for 5 hours is gas escaping or does it only escape when the grills knobs are turned? Thanks
- To answer your question directly, as long as the valve is open gas will continue to flow until its turned to the off position.
