Each piece of rug be rolled up in an individual standard plastic bag.
- Q: I have 2 king sized sheets and I don't have a loom. I just want a way to braid it, or something easier.
- It's called a rag rug. As already described, cut the sheets into long strips and make braids. A five strand braid is wider and flatter than a three strand, so is usually the braid of choice for a rug. Once you have finished the braids you can sew them together side by side into a round or oval shaped rug.
- Q: I just spilled coke on the cream colored carpet and just scrubbed it down with a wet wash cloth thoroughly. The problem is that I don't know if it will stain when it dries. How can I get the stain out if it occurs without ruining the carpet. I live in an apartment and don't want any damage.
- Pour club soda on the spill as soon as possible and cover the spot with clean, light-coloured towels or rags and stand on them. Continue to pour and absorb until all the colour from the stain has been blotted up and the towel is coming up clean. Follow up with a good carpet stain remover. When you spot-clean carpet, never rub, as it will only spread the stain and will cause abrasion to the carpet fibers. If the stain is old still try the club soda---it will lighten the stain. After using your carpet spotter, if the stain is still present, saturate with hydrogen peroxide or undiluted lemon juice. Wait 15 minutes to blot. Continue to apply making sure you aren't lightening the carpet. For red wine stains use white wine and salt and follow with club soda and carpet spotter.
- Q: I bought a couple of area rugs I have recently moved them have found that the backing is leaving dull looking marks on the wood flooring. How do I remove the marks??
- I would remove the rugs entirely and not use them on the wood. I would use Murphy's Oil Soap to clean it up. Just put it on a rag and test it in one spot before dong it all over. It should clean it up good. If you have to use the rugs, put down a padding especially for under area rugs. They sell them at most of the carpet stores, and maybe the large box stores. Good luck.
- Q: I tried using Prosolve Triple Action on my carpet after staining it with tea...IT DIDN'T WORK!!Any ideas!?
- Try blotting the tea stain with a white cloth or paper towel. Do not rub, as that will only spread the stain and cause it to possibly set deeper into the carpet fibers. Continue blotting with clean towels until you get most of the tea stain up. Blotting is repeatedly pressing directly down onto the spill. Step2 Mix a half cup of white vinegar with one cup of warm water and apply it to the tea stain using a spray bottle. If you don't have a spray bottle, you can carefully pour the mixture on the stain. Step3 Blot up the vinegar mixture using clean white cloth or paper towels until the towels come up clean. Step4 Make a solution of one teaspoon dish detergent to one cup warm water, and apply to the tea stain if the vinegar did not remove the tea stain completely. Blot as much up as possible, removing the soap mixture and the tea stain. Step5 Rinse the carpet by spraying or gently pouring clear water on the stain. Blot as much up as possible, and let the area air dry for at least one hour. Step6 Check the area after about an hour. If any of the tea stain remains visible, mix one teaspoon of peroxide in one cup of warm water, spray the stain and blot until the stain is gone.
- Q: I have a rug imported from Iran. It is made of wool on a silk backing. My cat was sick on it and some of the color ran—vermilion into cream color. It is getting a bit dingy and I would like to get it cleaned. Is there any way to get the pinkinsh stain out of the cream part. It is a beautiful rug.
- Wow you bought a rug from Iran. Sweet!!! Your cat was sick HMMMMMMM....
- Q: Is one of the two supposed to be softer than the other? More durable? Easier to clean? I want a sisal type area rug. I want a casual look that would go with my blend of tradtional and contemporary decor. I do not want a scratchy rug with fibers that quot;stick upquot; like bristles on a brush! I thought the sisal would be softer and more pliant to the touch, but a decorator friend said the jute is what I want.I believe seagrass is the scratchy, bristle-y fiber, and I don't want that. I want a sleek, tailored look.Any suggestions or ideas?
- Sisal rugs tend to be more durable. They are both natural fibers. I believe sisal wool rugs are what you're looking for. Sisal - the strength and durability of natural fibers, Wool - the soft underfoot feel. Sisal wool rugs have the best of both worlds - durable and soft. Jute is also soft, one of the softest natural fiber rugs. I guess the best way to compare the textured feel is to go into a rug shop and feel the difference of the materials.
- Q: Someone please tell me by 12:00am april 28 2007 all the steps of putting carpet down!!
- It depends on the type of carpet, some use mild adhesieves and others have to be stretched...if it is the kind that has to be stretched you will need a tack strip around the pirimeter of the room and padding cut to fit on the inside of the tack strip, then you will need to rent a carpet stretcher which has teeth on it and get down on your knees and knee kick the stretcher to stretch the carpet towards the tack strip all the way around the room, very hard on the knees....when you get the carpet stretched to the tack strip tap the carpet onto the tack strip with a hammer, good luck.
- Q: We have rugs in our house that cover a large area because we have wooden floors. We have had them for a few years and there is a lot of dust that is sand colored that doesn't go away easily even with vacuuming. My mom thinks its just backing from the rug and it's normal. Were planning to get rid of them soon but is this dust/sand stuff really harmful to breathe in? It's been there for years but we don't move them around or anything.
- It is a combination of dried backing and dust. I would suggest wearing a mask when you take them up. If you have dust allergies, it will certainly give you grief. Rugs not only need to be vacuumed on top, but should periodically be rolled up and vacuumed underneath as well, then the wood floor cleaned before putting the rugs back down.
- Q: My apartments carpet has been totaled over the years. I was living with a bad roommate and the carpet in his room has been ruined in various places because of stains. But i was looking at my lease and it says that it has a 5 year scale of 1200 dollars. I live in Ohio What can i expect when i move out in regards to the carpet. I have lived in my apartment for 8 years when my current lease expires.
- It sounds to me that since you have lived there for 8 years the 5 year scale has expired. Most carpets in the apartment rental business are prorated during the 1st 5-7 years. The $1200 must have been the value of the existing carpet or replacement value. Over the 5 years of the carpet's life if ever it were damaged and needed replacing, the $1200 would be prorated with X number of dollars deducted for each year of wear and tear. This means that after 8 years the landlord would get nothing for the carpet as it lived out its expected life. It is true that carpet quality varies but rest assured it is likely that an average quality carpet was installed when new. Prorating a carpet is based on: age of the carpet, quality of the carpet, how much the landlord paid, and expected life. I don't think you are going to owe anything for damage to the carpet unless the carpet was still in pristine condition and even then you would not owe very much.
