Q: If you were a single woman with no man around, how would you fix a hole in the ceiling from water damage? And the roof? On a budget. Is this possible for a small woman to do this job by herself? Can someone give me step by step instructions? Photo of the damage attatched.
First take a ruler and pencil, make a square out line. try and find the studs and ONLY cut to the middle of the studs with a Razor Knife, You will need something to screw the new peace of sheet rock on to, so don't go over the stud. Once you get old peace down, you will more than likely have to do some repair to your plumbing or ceiling, as this is leaking somewhere. Look up Youtube for further instructions. Other person above has a good idea on joint compound.
Q: I have one of those fairly standard (US) ceiling light fixtures that is bowl shaped and takes two light bulbs. That thin tin foil layer came off and now the light bulbs radiate directly on to that fiber/insulation material. Is this a fire hazard? It is one of three and I don't want to replace it but I also don't want to replace the house and my family either if you know what I mean. Can I put some real tin-foil back in its place?
Most likely, the insulation is fiberglass and not a fire threat. However, the foil backing is to deflect light and heat downward, so it is best to replace, and generally easy to do.
Q: Our basement family room has an insulated ceiling but the bedrooms do not. One bedroom is below a bathroom and it gets very loud because of a water waste pipe. We have a storage room that has open access to the ceiling space. It would be about 20ft that we would have to push insulation into. This seems like it would be very hard with traditional roll insulation. It would be very easy to put some lengths of soundboard or xps or something in, but I don't know if it would achieve the desired effect. Thanks in advance.
i think blow in would work.
Q: We just had our first child, and his room is right above the garage. It is noticebly colder in his room, especially the floor. I used the plastic window kits and that helped, however, the floor is still extremely cold and I would like to at least check the insulation in the garage ceiling. Right now there is drywall on the ceiling, but I have no qualms about ripping it down, not real worried what it looks like. What should I look for...I believe there is very old (50 years) fiberglass insulation but i'm not 100% sure. If there is the old insulation there...should I look to replace it? If so, with what R value...Is this a project that someone without specific experience in the field could complete? I'm pretty handy but certainly not a pro. I'm not worried at all how it looks in the garage.
It is a two person job. Take down the drywall. Examine the insulation that is there. If it looks good and fills the gap vertically and horizontally then leave it be. Add more insulation by getting rigid foam insulation and tacking it to the joists. Then drywall over the insulation. R-30 is a very good target, but go for what you can get. Don't oversuff cavities, that lowers the value of insulation.
Q: Hello, our house has a big crack in the ceiling running from on wall to the other ( only about 3 feet cause its a entrance way) and I was wondering if there is anyway to fix it properly? We will be selling the home in a year and don't want it to scare anyone off BUT also don't want to just paint over it ( may get sued for concealing a problem). Any ideas or thoughts? Are we screwed and may have to leave it and the house won't sell as fast?:(
Use a screwdriver, knife, etc. and dig the crack all the way out, clean and apply drywall compound, let dry and put on another coat, sand smooth and paint to match ceiling.
Q: How to decorate the living room
Color and light - the layout of color and lighting is the main means of reflecting the artistic aesthetic and personality of the master. Color, should be the overall tone to be unified, do not use too much color, or will make the whole space is very messy. Note that the color decoration with soft decoration, which will produce your unexpected effect. Daytime living room to natural light-based, as far as possible to the natural light into the room; evening to artificial lighting, including decorative chandelier lighting, ceiling lamps, embedded lights and walls, such as mixed lighting, but to ensure that the room is bright Is still the first choice of lamps and lanterns, and then through the light to increase the level of space, contrast atmosphere.
Q: I am spraypainting my basement ceiling black, I am also putting up drywall. I am not sure how to finish the space above the top of the wall, where I can see insulation between joists. Any thoughts are welcome.
Painting insulation is just begging for trouble.
Q: The wall is a good brush or paste the wallpaper good ah that is more environmentally friendly if the brush which is also what brand of good paint
With paint better, but it is recommended not to buy the Japanese Imperial Oil Company's products (even now the overseas production all in Singapore
Q: What is the idea of interior design?
Interior design is sensory design, it is a visual beauty, giving a comfortable feeling.
Q: What is the relationship between the two? Or who is engaged in the electronics industry, can give me talk about the industry's industrial chain and technical process? Thank you.
The characteristics of glass fiber ?? The concept of glass is generally hard and fragile objects, and is not suitable as a structural material, but if it is made of silk, its strength is greatly increased and has a softness, so with the shape of the resin can finally become a good structural material. Glass fiber with its diameter smaller its strength increased. As a reinforcing fiber glass fiber has the following characteristics, these features make the use of glass fiber far more than other types of fiber to a wide range of development speed is also far ahead of its characteristics are listed below:
