- Q: I have a den that has 12inch acoustic ceiling tile that drips water sometimes when the weather is cool.I have checked and the attic above it is thoroughly insulated. The tile was installed on furring strips direct up against the fiberglass insulation, with no drywall in between the two, materials. The roof has ridge vents and the soffits, has perforated panels. There is also a 4 foot recessed fluorescent light in the center of the ceiling that looks like a week-end novice creation, that leaks cold air around it,a little. I have lived here for 10 years and have had this problem, the entire time. Two years I had the roof replaced thinking that it would solve my problem , because the ceiling was sprouting wet spots, randomly every where. What can I do about this madness?
- Moisture or condensation occurs when relatively warm-moist air comes in contact with a cold surface. You need to either eliminate the air leakage supplying the moist air, or do something (usually insulate) the surface to keep it's temperature warmer to prevent condensation or a combination of both.
- Q: This is an old house and has wood and some type of dry cement-type material in between the wood slats. I stepped on the ceiling while doing an insulation job in the attic. The wood is fine but the dryed material cracked and separated from the wood slats in the bathroom. The damages area is around 18 inches by 12 inches, and some cracks in other areas of the ceiling. I do not want to sheetrock the whole bathroom if i can avaoid it (too many projects in this ol house). thanks!
- If all you are seeing from the bathroom are cracks: Cut a peice of 3/4 plywood a little larger than the area of cracked ceiling. From the attic side apply a good construction adhesive to the area between the loose ceiling and the wood slats. Don't skimp! Now cover the damaged ceiling from the bathroom side with the plywood and either wedge in place with a 2x4 (called a deadman) or attach the plywood with 2 (or longer) drywall screws, preferable into the ceiling joists. Once adhesive has dried, remove plywood, cover all cracks with self-adhesive fiberglass joint tape, and cover with this coat of quick setting joint compound. Durabond 300 works great for nonprofessionals because it has a long working time but will still dry very hard and will adhere to the existing plaster better than regular drywall joint compound. When dry, cover entire repair with skim coat of regular joint compound. When that dries, sand and paint. Ceiling should last until the next wrong step. If large pieces of ceiling have fallen: First replace larger areas with correct thickness drywall, then procede as descibed above. The washered screws described in other answers tend to create more cracks than they correct.
- Q: the fabric lining my jeep's ceiling is missing in the front of my car. came down in bits and pieces and i wasn't able to reattach it. there's a material underneath that looks something like yellow fiberglass??? is that right? is it safe to be exposed to this? i don't use the car much so i haven't had it fixed yet but i'd like to know what i'm dealing with here. thanks for any help!
- its not fiberglass, its a hard resin foam. Will do no harm, unless you chew it up and swallow it or snort it... But being exposed to it is not bad for your health..

- Q: What is the classification of wallpaper in the end
- There are many kinds of what you want to know?
- Q: hey. i am moving my room into another room in my house. The only problem with this room is that the ceiling is quite old and one part of it fell off. I need to fix this part that fell off. I think the whole ceiling is plaster i guess but underneath the plaster are these really skinny wood boards with something that looks like cement between them. Can i just do the standard drywall fix with a new drywall piece and some mesh and can i nail the drywall into these boards? I also need to peel ugly wallpaper off too to paint it. If i could just fix this part of the ceiling, things would be great. Oh, the whole is like 3 feet by 2 ft so how much would the drywall be to fix it. i cant get it done by a proffessional because i have no money and my mom will by me the drywall. A lot of help appreciated. thanks.
- Your ceiling is called plaster and lathe. You can just purchase some plaster to fill in the hole. Build it back up in several layers.
- Q: My studio apartment doesn't have an attic. A lot of the installation videos and articles I read online are about installing foil insulation a couple inches below the roof and above the room's ceiling. Does it matter if I install it under the ceiling (that is, the foil barrier is visible to me when inside the apartment)?Aesthetics isn't an issue. I don't mind seeing the foil. I just want to know if I can still achieve the same results whether or not I install above the ceiling. Thanks!
- The foil would only radiate visible light back toward you, and fiberglass insulation ( or rigid polyisocyanurate panels covered with drywall) would create a barrier to keep the heat in your room. If just foil worked, you would assume no one would bother with installing 10 thick fiberglass to achieve an R-38 rating and spend thousands of dollars if a couple hundred of foil would do it.
- Q: i am living in a ground storey house and there's no construction on top of my house. therefore it's very hot in summer and winter is normal.please help me to elaborate any procedure or material for cooling my top (ceiling) . i would be very grateful. thanks and regards.
- Don't know where you are or what type of roof we're talking about, but I would say an elastomeric roof coating would do the trick.
