- Q:I am a sophomore and the girl who is the first chair for the flute is graduating. My friend wants to be first chair and so do I. I am not sure if my band has ranking like that but I still want to get the first chair. I would hate for my friend to get mad if I do sit in the first chair but, I want to continue music in college and she doesn't. What should I do?
- Hi! I'm currently a first chair flautist in an orchestra and I'll be giving up my position next year :( When I auditioned, our conductor asked me to play a piece ( I played grade 8 standard) and he asked me why I want to sit in first chair. First chair is an honour, but it doesn't mean you're the best player. It doesn't matter which seat you're sitting in. In the youth orchestra I'm in, the first chair takes care of the other chairs, eg tuning before playing, sorting music, seating arrangements etc. There's little kids about 12 always whining saying I wanna play in the first flutes!!! But I have a policy. First flute = grade 6 and above, since I let a couple of them play first flute and they couldn't play the music.. So think about it. Do you just want first chair because you want to be known as the first chair flautist and beat your friend out, or do you consider yourself a skilled enough player.. do you think you really deserve it, too?
- Q:I have a stupid fear of electric chairs due to some bad dreams about sitting in one. I'm not a bad person in the death row or anything; I just have an irrational fear. I can't even look at an image of an electric chair without getting nauseous or fainting. Because of this I don't really like sitting in any chairs. Help me! :(
- Well first of all I don't believe your fear of sitting in an electric chair is abnormal. You couldn't tempt me into one either! It was used as a symbol for death for many many years here in the US. It was held up as the ultimate price one would pay for doing something serious against the law. So the fear was ingrained in us even as little folks. I don't know your age, but my generation sure wanted nothing to do with the electric chair, and all the ugliness that goes with it. Do you have a fascination with death, as I notice the name you use here on YAN is Korpsie, and that is like asking for trouble. Why would you entertain such a name, when you claim to be afraid of the electric chair? It doesn't jive! It doesn't make sense to me. Your fear, or fascination, with death has overtaken your belief system. It has frightened you so much you are not even willing to sit in ordinary chairs. That is the irrational fear (not the electric chair!) Try to desensitize yourself by allowing yourself to sit in a sofa, or couch, and then move on to a few minutes in a chair, and then keep on doing that until your fear eventually goes away. You may need some therapy to deal with this problem. You spoke of bad dreams about electrical chairs. You know dreams are symbolic? Try to remember your exact dream, as then we can ferret out the real reason you are afraid of an electric chair. Earlier in your Life were you electrocuted by live wires of some sort? Something happened to make you very wary of electricity. Try hard to remember what it was, and then tell it to take a hike, because it's messing with your Life. OK? Good luck to you!
- Q:Imagine a typical chair, with legs perpendicular to the seat. It must support 135kg. The two front legs act as two supports. Instead of the back two legs, there is one support. This one support must be between the middle of the chair and where the two back legs would be. What calculations could I carry out to work out the load on each support for when the back leg is in different positions? Thanks!
- Can we look at the cautions and exceptions to this model? First of all the back legs in a normal chair are not at the back of the seat but extend out further so they are under the top of the back of the chair or further. In addition, the center of mass of someone sitting in a chair is not in the center of the chair but is close to the bottom of the tilted back where the hip bones support the upper half or more of the body weight. Having said that, change the specifications so the 135kg is centered on the chair seat and the single support is moved in various locations from that center away from the front legs (and the chair itself has no weight) The distance from the front legs to the middle is D and the seat is 2D deep. The distance from the middle to the rear support is X and varies from 0 to D. When X is 0, then entire weight is on the rear support. When X is D, then half the weight is on the front legs and half on the support. Therefore the amount of weight in any position is F = 135 * (D / (D + X)) When X =0, D/D+0 = 1 When X =D, D/D+D = 1/2
- Q:Does the Lifetime movie The Mermaid Chair have anything to do with mermaids at all?`````````

- Q:I have recently bought 2 office chairs to be comfortable while working at the computer, for hours as my work requires...I amstill at a loss, as to comfort, but after $500, I think maybe someone would know an answer to help me on this matter.thanks.
- Are you saying you're not comfortable in your office chair? Well, I would just keep searching until you find one. Maybe you should sell those chairs and use the money to get a better, comfier chair. Sorry, this question was kind of confusing.
- Q:Another friend suggested renting wood folding padded chairs. It is more cost effective however, now it comes down to choosing a color.
- Is that price for the covers and sashes? If it is then rent the just the covers and make the sashes yourself they are easy to do and will save you money. If you have a relative that can work a sewing machine you can make both the covers and the sashes but this will cost you about half the rental for that many chairs however the up side here is if they work good you can take tons of pictures and the measurements and auction them off on OKorder or some other site and get your money back or more depending if you sale all together or in three lots of fifty.
- Q:Draw the two chair conformations of cis-1-ethyl-4-chlorocyclohexaneIf you can just explain what it looks like, that would be totally fine
- Draw out a chair and number the carbons 1 to 6. Put in the axial and equatorial branches. Place the ethyl group at the equatorial position on C1. Now, since the ethyl and chloro substituents are cis, the chlorine at C4 must be in the axial position. That is, when the ethyl group is equatorial, the chlorine is axial . Draw a flip chair of the first chair. Everything that was equatorial now becomes axial, and everything that was axial now is equatorial. So, the ethyl group at C1 is axial and the chlorine at C4 is equatorial. Those are the two chair conformations of cis-1-ethyl-4-chlorocyclohexane.
- Q:I looked on ebay couldn't find any, I just don't want to pay $70 for the chair
- And when you see what they are, you really won't want to pay that for them. :) The chairs are really nice and I can't think of anything you can substitute for the insert. It is 2 odd sized rectangle-ish foam inserts for the seat and back and then 2 cylindrical inserts for the arms. Stuffing it all in there is a pain but it's nice when you have to wash just one area of the chair. You might try looking on craigslist. I see stuff like that all the time on there. I know it's a good chunk of money (especially when you add the cover) but the one we have has really taken a beating and it still looks brand new. If you can't find a cheaper one, I'd still just buy the one from pottery barn.

OfficeMate office partners will be divided into narrow and broad office chair, office chair sat in a narrow sense refers to people working in the desktop sitting state when the chair, office chair general for all for the office chair, including a chair, Zhongban chairs, reception chairs, staff chair, conference chair, chair, chair of visitors training etc..
- Q:I currently have a typical rocker/recliner in my living room, but I thought it'd be cooler to have something more unique. The only two other options that I could think of was a Papasan Chair or a Hanging Chair. Any other ideas?
