- Q: i am going to put laminate flooring in my condo. i want to know if i can do the whole house as one contiguous floor or if i should break up the rooms.
- I think aesthetically, a continuous floor looks a little bit nicer, but practically, you should break it up. First off, if it's a click-lock system (most laminate is), the longer a continuous stretch you have, the more likely you are to get gaps or bowing over time (of course, bowing is much less likely if you leave proper expansion space around walls). Second, as another answer has pointed out, one part of the floor may be damaged, or you or a later owner may simply want to change a floor in one room. Separating the rooms allows you that flexibility.

- Try using a microfiber mop with a mixture of Apple Cider Vinegar and water. Mix the two in any ratio you want. Then mop and scrub with this mixture. Don't over-saturate the mop...you want damp, but not dripping wet. Also, never use steam on wooden floors. It can cause the floor to warp. Why Apple Cider Vinegar? Apple Cider Vinegar contains tannins, which condition the wood while it cleans. It makes hardwood floors absolutely glow. Plus it's non-toxic and can be used as often as you like. Once in a while you can add a couple teaspoons of Lemon Oil to the mixture for extra glow. Actually just about any Essential Oil works. If you do add oil, stir the mixture often to keep the oil mixed. I don't recommend Murphy's Oil soap. It tends to leave streaks. The vinegar and microfiber cloth will remove the streaks you're experiencing. You can buy these just about anywhere...Target, Walmart, Home Depot, even Dollar General. Good luck. -
- Q: I just purchased some floor tiles that are suppose to be easy to install. All the direction say you have to do is just attach them to your floor (it sticks on one side) but they won't stick to my floor! (on my bathroom floor, they already have tiny cement tiles on them, nonremovable) i really dont want to take them back, but i need some advice on what i can use to make them work on my bathroom floor, because i hate the tiling thats already there, could someone please help. - You are going to have to scuff(sand )the surface of the tiles to allow adhesion. You will need to thoroughly clean after sanding the area(vacuum, wipe). Test one area first before applying the tile to the rest of the floor. If you have problem areas where the tiles just don't stick you will need to get a waterproof bonding agent that seals exceptionally well. Use a sealant afterwards for repel water.

Recently I have used "Bruce" hardwood floor cleaner and "Rejuvenate" which both claim to shine and not leave a residue. I have tried washing the floors with water but still can't get rid of it. Why are my floors not shiny anymore?
- You need to have your floors re-sanded and then varnished. That should have been done in the first place.

- ok my first thought to your question was no way! BUT, if you are desperate enough to have hardwood floors, you may be a able to do it like this: (since you can't pull the carpeting up) at lowes they sell this thin board for around $6 for a 4'X8' sheet (found on the same aisle as wall paneling). maybe if you lay this down over your carpet then lock in your laminate floor it may float above the carpet. i wouldn't suggest you leave much expansion room along the walls and you should attach a baseboard all they way around to help secure the laminate so maybe it won't pop up and come apart. i'm not saying it would work but if you have a small room like 10X12 or so to try it out in first, that way if it doesn't work out you may have only lost a couple hundred dollars. good luck to you....

- these floors are covered with an enameled paint product made by Rustoleum. the kits to do this can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes. they are designed for garage floors and must be used on concrete floors. the cost is about 100.00. the concrete must be prepped first for consistent coverage. a pro should be consulted. good luck.
