Q:My dog slobbers a lot on the kitchen floor when we are out. We come home to lots of very watery slobber on the floor. Our current linoleum flooring is old and needs replacement. I would like something in style but it needs to withstand the slobber. Thanks for any suggestions.
I'm a dog owner, too, and a DIY'r. Vinyl or tile is, IMO, your best bet. Wood will scratch and the other guy is right about laminate and wood needing spills wiped up very quickly. If cost is an issue, good quality vinyl will last for years and is easy to clean. Tile is more expensive but adds more value to your home. The choice is yours. BTW, that throbbery dog thounds like a real trip!
Q:Stick to strengthen the floor how to paste, with what accessories? What kind of ground can be posted?
In the case of the original cement floor, it is possible to assemble it. In the assembly before the release of some special moisture-proof pad, and then directly installed.
Q:We are considering slate floors for the bathroom remodel we are doing. Are they difficult to maintain and are they a good choice for the bathroom?
Depends on the type of slate that you get. Some has iron in it that will oxidize when it rises to the surface and look like rust(even if you've had it sealed). There are some good porcelain look-a-likes that are around the same price. Gives you the look without the worry! If you do get any type of slate, make sure it gets sealed well and have extra sealer on hand to reseal every two years if area is used a lot. If it's only used once in awhile, like a guest room bath, reseal it once every 3-5 years.
Q:Flooring this piece of general to buy what need to pay attention to what the general kick line to send it? ,
The floor is generally not sent to the baseball of these are to spend money! The floor generally see the wear resistance of pressure penetration
Q:We are redoing a house and all the flooring had to be ripped up because of animal smells& stains(this is a fore closer we bought hopefully to retire in)anyway dining rm has beautiful med dk hardwood on it, and it is open floor plan, thinking of cork for kitchen, any body used cork? how does it wear? difficulty in putting down? And how about linoleum, I have heard it has come along way since the 60s. Thanks for your time.
Cork is hypoallergenic as has a natural substance in it that makes it resistant to mold and insects. Cork is a sustainable environmentally friendly product and has a great appearance.I would phone a reputable flooring store and make sure you have someone that has experience install it. It is a personal preference of to what you choose, my friend loves her linoleum as she finds it so easy to care for. It looks like tile and I have seen people sitting at her table reach down and touch it. They have very realistic patterns. Hope this helps.
Q:The sub floor in my kitchen was nailed in. About 10 years ago I put down vinyl tile squares and within the past 10 years the nails have been coming up through the tile. I am about to replace the floor with a vinyl sheet, I don't want this to happen again so how can I prevent this without taking out all the nails in the entire floor and replacing them with screws?
If you can't raise the floor and don't want to remove all the nails then your best bet is to put screws in next to the nails. This will hold the subfloor tightly down and help to stop the nails from creeping up. intermittent moisture will still swell and shrink the wood though which will pop up the nails eventually.
Q:Sorry the question may be a liitle long, but I want to be clear about what I am asking. Is not it that a Flat-floor, rather than a level floor is needed for tile/hardwood installation. A lot of times due to foundation shift, you could not make a level floor, or it would be out of sink with tha adjoining rooms. If I am right:Are there complication with with Tile/Hardwood over a flat, but not a level floor. To flatten out a floor, I am told to use a 6' straight edge and find the gaps. But, if I move this straight edge even a foot to the left, or right of where I started, the gaps under the straight edge would be moving elsewhere, the prior gaps would now be flat with the staight edge.I am all confused. Can you help please.
I see no issue tiling a floor on a slant but yes its got to be relatively flat. The DIY floors such as laminate are a little forgiving with the correct underlay but I don't know how much you are measuring. vinyl tiles need it very flat. ceramic tiles can be made up with extra adhesive if you are good. You can buy self leveling compound that's a bit like very watery cement when mixed if you need to level a concrete floor.
Q:Are unlevel floors always a sign of some sort of structural damage( framing, floor joysts etc) ? Or are there other causes? If so, what are they?
usually it is caused by shifting foundations or support columns. Alot of times the foundations were never strong enough to hold the weight especially the center support columns. the exterior walls hold up and the heavy wieght of the house sinks the undersized support column that probably has no footing into the ground.
Q:Wax floor's have to be buffed stripped and waxed and other floor's usually a mopping.
Some flooring , especially in retail floors, need a top coat to protect the floor from all the foot traffic. Whats commonly applied isn t a wax but more of a urethane finish or top coating. When buffed it heats up melts and reapply s itself to the floor along with a shiny finish. Most vinyls for residential flooring no long requires a wax but a simple mop on polish. And yes it occasionally needs to be stripped and reapplied. But this to is a simple mop application.. This is for the same reason, its a top coating to protect the vinyl from foot traffic.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:ok i have theses 2 rooms that have laminate flooring in them and there is a water damaged spot almost in the doorway first rooms about 420sqft and the other rooms about 110sqft and right where the doorway is to the rooms is a spot that is water damaged and it's about 4ft from the starting wall can we cut up the flooring and replace it without having to redo both rooms is there a way to put it together backwards from starting wall to finish point?
If it’s the self locking, floating floor type yes, i have done it it can be carefully disassembled and all the reusable pieces saved and then re-installed you must have enough new pieces of the exact same floor to replace the damaged ones and re install all the flooring you removed pull up the molding that hides the edges of the floor and find where the last row of flooring installed is and lift gently to unlock all the pieces
