Q: I have a Dell Latitude D505. I do not need comments on whether I have a good laptop or not. That's not the point.I heard a tiny pop sound, and after that, my laptop is not recognizing the power cable. I don't think it's the cable. I've tried restarting the computer. Any suggestions?
Something broke and you will not fix your problem here. Only a computer tech can help you now.
Q: I have just bought a pair of Yamaha HS50m monitors, connected only the power cable, switched them both on, and they are both making a noticeable constant hissing noise? Is this normal? Should this happen? Is it because I have not yet connected them to my interface or any other device?I am worried I have purchased a dodgy pair and would be grateful for any info.many thanks
Almost all powered studio monitors have some hiss if you have the input level turned all the way up - this is normal.
Q: do i need to buy the cable that says specifically for ground? or can i just use my left over wiring from the power cable to connect in the ground? is there a difference between the two cables?
Typically, the only difference between a power cable and a ground cable is the color. If you have leftover power cable, go ahead and use it.
Q: It is a Gateway Desktop AMD Athlon 64X2 4200, 2048 DDR2, running Win XP Media center edition with Update Rollup 2. It first started when I put it in quot;stand-bymode and the computer refused to wake up. It has now gotten so bad I have to unplug the power several times with waiting periods in-between, before it will start up. I don't know much about computers but have been reading and trying different set-ups as I read about possible causes. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate.
Try pulling the cmos battery (clock), that will reset the bios to default. There could be an electronic swith stuck . The battery is chrome or silver around the size of a nickle. Wait a min or so and put it back in.
Q: The other day I found an imac g5 17computer in my alley. It probably doesn't work but I was just curious about what cables/accessories I need for it. All that was out there was the actual monitor/desktop. There were no cables with it. (By the way if you can't tell I am not experienced with computers)Thanks any info is appreciated!
Power cable, USB keyboard, USB mouse. That's it. Find a power cable (any old computer power cable will work) and see if it even powers on and does anything first. Crack it open. Set it on its face, then undo the three screws across the bottom. They do NOT come out. They only loosen up until you can't turn them anymore. The back pops off. Look for any swollen or leaking capacitors. If you find any, then it's junk. If you don't, then see if there's any RAM in it. If not, toss some PC3200 DDR RAM in there and see if you get anything.
Q: Can i make the CAT 5 speaker cable, explained on many websites, as a 4 gauge power wire from my battery to my amp?
Whoever advised against this is correct.
Q: We have AT U-verse and we lost power during a storm. The picture returned and sound through the tv speakers but our surround sound did not. We have an Onkyo receiver along with the U-Verse cable box but nothing was changed.Any ideas?
Most likely the receiver is on the wrong input
Q: my friend has a dell that has a btx mobo. the power supply looks like all the other power supplys. will getting a regular power cord at radio shack fit and work with the dell power supplys. the cables that come out of the supply are all the same as usual ones.
You will most likely be fine, but check the power rating. If you look at the back of the PC, just below the power cable install you will see a rating for voltage. The cable should match that voltage. I cannot imagine that any power cable for a PC would be higher or lower than the standard, at least if you are in the US.
Q: My car wont start and only starts after moving power cables up and down. Im not sure what the problem is. If i slightly move it I see alittle sparking under the engine. When i manipulate the battery power cables it manipulates all the wires connecting to it so i cant pin point where the problem is. When i try to start ignition there is zero sound. When i manipulate cables it starts right up and cranks fine.
If you're seeing a spark under the engine then you probably have a loose wire at the starter motor.
Q: When i want to connect two SATA hard drives do I need some power cable on slave or just to connect it with sata cable and that'it? Because I did it like that and it's not recognized. And I don't have second SATA power supply cable in my computer.
Of course you will need power, how is it to run without it?
