Q: I have my friends PC at my house to change a few components but apparently the PC doesn't work properly. I insert the power connectors ( 20 and 4 pin connectors ) into the motherboard, plug the power cable into the PSU and when i turn the power button on the PSU the computer will start but do nothing. It never worked like that before, i always used the power button from the computer to turn it off and on. And this happened just after i changed a PSU. Now the old Power Supply doesn't work either. Is there any way to stop the computer from turning itself on ?
There are two possible problems 1. there is a short on the motherboard, specifically, the power on circuit. It is acting like the power button is held in. May have a faulty board. 2. The cmos has reset, and the default setting for activity on power failure is full on. Meaning, if power is lost to the computer (even if it is off), it will power on. A simple change in the bios would fix this In all likely hood, #2 is your problem
Q: I have a Dell Optiplex 790 SFF, I need a replacement power cable, on the manual it says for power: 240W, 1259 Btu/hr, 100 Vac to 240 vac, 50hz to 60 hz 3.6A. I contacted Dell and they said they have a power cable for it, the Dell 5120P cable which is 125 V 10A. Now my concern is with the 10A vs the 3.6A listed on the manual, should I be concerned?
no it will be fine, the maximum power needed as you state is 240W the replacement power cable is 125V 10A=1.25Kw so the power cable is grossly overated HTH David
Q: Recently moved from the UK, so I need power cables for the following:- External Hard Drive- Skype Phone Base Station- etcThese appliances come with a power cord from the socket to a small circular head that plugs into the said appliance.I've looked in Walmart, and all they have is a mutihead adaptor for 18 bucks, when I really need just a power cord with the wall socket and the right size circular head.Any advice is appreciated!

Q: Do you need to use both the 6 pin PCI-E power cable and the 8 pin PCI-E power cable on a video card? Why are they used? To give power to the video card if needed? Seems like the motherboard gives the card power as well?
Different cards have different power requirements. Yes, you need to connect all of the power cables. For example the Radeon 5770 has only a single 6-pin connector and runs fine on a 450W power supply, while the Radeon 4870 and GTX 250 require two power connectors from 500-550W (or higher) psu. Cards draw some power directly from the slot (They can draw more under PCI-E 2.0 and later than version 1.1 or 1.0)
Q: Why do phone lines stay on when other lines power and cable will go out during a storm?
I'm just amazed at how little people know about everyday things. The phone company actually runs their phones on BATTERIES... so when the power goes out, the batteries keep the phones alive... it has been done this way for OVER 100 YEARS... so it's nothing new.
Q: I have a usb powered cup warmer. It has a car adaptor. I would like to know if its possible to use it to charge my cellphone in the car, instead of buying a car adaptor.
The max power you can draw from a USB port is 2.5W (500 mA at 5V)
Q: The question above relates with the Transpose Line. One of the subtopics under Transmission Line Parameters in Power System.
If the adjacent line induces current in a nearby cable that would be a problem. Transposing results in one section having an induced current with a certain phase but the next section (after the transposition) has an induced current with the opposite phase. Over the length off the cable, the opposing induced currents will cancel each other out.
Q: Hi,I have problem with power cable on Karcher 670m pressure washer. I pulled all of the power cable out and now it's stuck and doesn't roll back inside. What can i do to fix it?Sven
Throw the piece of crap away. Just kidding, but it wouldn't make sense to take it to a repair shop when you could buy a new one for $100 bucks. Just roll the cord up when your finished using it.
Q: I've looked on the internet, but it doesn't seem that the power cable for this printer is sold anywhere! Does anybody know if I'm able to buy it? And if so, where? I'm desperate. I don't want to buy a new printer. Even though this printer, actually, sucks. Let me know..........
www.okorder /... This will get you started in the right direction it is the hp parts store and yes apparently you can buy one. didn't know if you meant the cord or power block thingie.
