Q: what is the best bug repellant that I can make at home to spray on my vegetable garden to keep bugs away from around and on my plants chewing them?

Q: Some of my Friends are saying quot;WOWquot; and other things, Im just going to grow Vegetables and Some Flowers (to make it look nice). What should I do?
My second oldest son just got put in charge of the big garden at his university. My oldest son has a huge garden and is selling vegetables to farmers markets and to an inn near his home. His wife was raised on a farm but he's the one that does most of the work in the garden. I'm glad they didn't think it was a girl thing when they were young. They were great helps in the home vegetable garden my husband and I have. That second oldest son also designed and planted a study garden. It was a place for him to study away from his younger siblings. Its a great place to go to for peace and quiet. Its full of ferns, flowers and shrubs. Grow some weird vegetables that will amaze your friends and shut them up. I grow brilliant GREEN and blue corn, purple sweet potatoes, purple green beans, purple tomatoes and purple potatoes. You can find the seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. BTW, the guy that founded Baker Creek started the company when he was just a kid and look where its taken him!
Q: I already have squash, cucumber, tomatoe, corn, cantaloupe, and purple hall peas and okra.
Peppers. Green, red or yellow as well as basil for cooking them.
Q: I need to have my vegetable garden watered while on vacation for about 5 days. I have looked on the internet and found people were using plastic bottles or jugs by filling a bottle with water and putting a needle size hole in the cap then sticking them into the ground a few inches down next to the plant. I've tried that, the water ran slow or it ran fast, like in one day the water was gone. I tried putting a needle hole in the bottom of the bottle and the water leaked out faster. I would ask someone to water my plants, but everyone will be gone that weekend. Got any other tips? Am I doing it the wrong way or what? Thank You to all who answers.
If you mulch your veggies with straw or grass clippings and water everything well before you leave, they may not even miss you. Mulch is such a lifesaver for plants especially in this kind of weather. I can't think of an easier way to make sure they are taken care of while you are gone. Also, ask a neighbor to look out for your home and garden while you are gone-surely the whole neighborhood won't be on vacation at the same time. It is a great way to reach out to others and make friends - everyone wants to feel needed.
Q: My 9 year old girl wants a garden. We live in MN and want a garden that produces things fairly fast. Any suggestions?
Get one of those strawberry hanging planters (the upside down strawberry planters). Get the eversweet strawberries. They will flower very soon. They will have flowers and fruit year round and they will be above ground keeping off slugs and other pests. Radishes are good for planting in the ground from seed, they grow rapidly, and are ready for picking soon. The only negative is that kids usually aren't thrilled about eating them. Tomatoes are beautiful and grow large fairly rapidly. I think everyone should grow a few tomato plants since there is such a huge difference between store bought tomatoes and home grown. THey might take longer to get fruit from, but I think it would be a good lesson to your daughter at an early age about the benefit of home gardening. Also, I think she'd get a kick out of the wonderful smells of the tomato plant.
Q: I live in central new york... I would like to plant a garden this year. this will be my first time, any tips or suggestions? what are the best vegetables to plant for my area. thank you!

Q: We are remodeling our kitchen, and we liked a kitchen we saw in a Better Homes and Gardens magazine. My wife tore out the page, page Z4 from January 2007 issue. I got this issue out of the library, but no page Z4 (z as in zebra) (Better by Design - Comfort comes to the kitchen article). It must have been some supplement. Does anyone have this issue with this page? We are desperate for the kitchen specs from this article, which they often print at the end of the magazine. Please let me know if you have it, or have an idea what magazine it is really in...thanks!
Go to their home page and click on customer service in the upper right hand corner. Perhaps they will e-mail or fax that page. Or perhaps they have back issues for sale.
Q: My mom has that better homes and gardens cookbook (its old i think) and she always uses the easy baked beans recipe for Christmas but some how the page got ripped out and lost. If anyone has this cookbook could you please give me the recipe. It is on p.785 and she says its just called quot;easy baked beansquot; Thanks so much!
Easy Baked Beans Source: Better Homes Gardens 4 slices bacon 1/2 c chopped onion 2 (1-pound) cans pork and beans 2 T brown sugar 1 T Worcestershire sauce 1 t prepared mustard Preheat oven to 325° F. Cook bacon until crisp; drain, reserving 2 tablespoons drippings. Crumble bacon. Cook onion in drippings until tender; add with bacon to beans, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and prepared mustard; mix well. Bake uncovered in 1-1/2 quart casserole for 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hours. Makes 6 servings
Q: I have a project for my job, which is coming up with fun or entertaining activities that would be beneficial to the environment and that the community and students can participate in. The community garden is the FH King community garden in UW-Madison.
Have you considered looking at citizen science projects that require people to conduct surveys of plants, bugs, etc.
Q: Long story short, I had a sharper image home theater 2.1 speaker system
accessories4less(dot)com There's super cheap receivers there. All you need is a basic 2.1 stereo receiver. You can get a Onkyo TX-8255 for $119 which will work fine, for those types of speakers you wont need alot of power at all, trust me. If you wanna go super dirt cheap look for a sony stereo receiver but they suck and arent reliable. Be sure that sub connects through an RCA and is a powered sub, if its a passive sub that connects through speaker wire then you wont be able to buy a receiver that will connect right.
