Q: I've heard moles come to get grubs, should I try to kill the grubs or is there a way to just stop the moles from getting into my garden?
there are traps to humanely capture the moles, but moles are a useless animal -- sorry, but I'm not a big fan of them. Mole pellets work best, and they're available in most home and garden centers for a few bucks. Sprinkle a few in all the mole runs or gopher holes and you'll find them dead in a couple days. DO NOT use this stuff if you have little kids running around (especially those that would pick up and eat things that look like rabbit turds). By far, the best thing to control grubs is Milky Spore. It's a biological control (hopefully that makes up for my previous kill all moles answer) that will kill grubs for 10-15 years. Again, you can find it in Home Depot or Lowes, but look for it online if you're covering 10,000 sq. ft. or more.
Q: We're replacing our decks railing, so I thought it would be nice to use it as a fence around some raised vegetable garden beds. We're planning on selling the house in 5 years or so, would this be appealing to buyers? A nice vegetable garden? Thanks!
I'm told that buyers generally like what they can customize without going to too much hassle. So in all_ do what you like; your sale is 5 years into the future, who knows what can happen in that amount of time? Second, whatever you do, don't expect it to add value to your home, and don't expect that your buyer will be exactly like you in every way.
Q: This sounds kind of strange though. They said I should receive the certificate in about 4 or 5 days.Has anyone had this happen to them also?and is it for real?I know I shouldnt fall for anything like this. But one thing I did tell them was that Im not giving my information or credit card info.out.She said no credit card is needed.Sounds eerie huh?
Oh wow. I have never heard of this. The best rule is to trust your instincts. I think you're right on with thinking it's a scam. If you don't remember specifically entering a contest with BHG, then it's more than likely a scam. Plus the fact that they said they are sending you stuff like magazines to try and that you are a preferred customer of a credit card really sounds like they will eventually try to sell you something. The fact that they had your name and address probably means they bought your name from that credit card company. I would stay away from this type of thing. If you had entered something from BHG and just not remembered they would never say they were sending you magazines to try. They would never mention another business. You are right that they would have all the information you asked for including the details of the prize. They would have been up front on how they got your name (they would have told you you entered). In fact, they would be more than happy to send you proof of your entry and give you proof of who they are. Plus they would probably give their name and some sort of contact number. I work for a company that sometimes runs contests and when we call our winners, we always start by giving our real name and our direct line so they know we are really the company we say we are. We always have the prize information because, after all, we ran the contest.
Q: panelling beadboard wainscot and raised panel ideas for your home?
Somehow, you've wandered into the wrong forum! This is the home theater electronics forum, where the discussions are centered around home theater system and TV operational and electronics problems. I think you want one of the sub-forums under Home Garden, like DYI or decorating and remodeling.
Q: Is this done mostly at local stores or online?
Baby please online is the best thing to ever happen. I bought a wonderful dinning room set from California It cost a pretty penny but ooooooo soooo worth it.
Q: If the next doors land is lower than mine, do I measure the wall from my land or next doors.I have also built the wall on my side of the boundary, including footings; does this mean next door can not paint their side of the wall or fix things onto it?
depends on where you live, in my state if you put up a fence on the line it is a common fence, both will take care of it, he can paint it on his side, go by your land for measurments
Q: designed to protect International banks from a bartering system? I know the government isn't enforcing the ban now, but they did write the regulations into the 2011 Food Safety and Modernization Act for a reason. And bartering is becoming very popular in Europe as a way to not participate in global currency. Many people are bartering on Craigslist these days.
I know this is strange, but it is all part of a Communist/Liberal society. Why in the world would it be wrong to grow your own stuff. I think if it was to ever become real like in our faces real.. I would grow one and tell them to kiss my toosh. I will never let a Liberal control me...
Q: Why do they keep trying to put all my questions in home and gardening today?
they might like gardening
Q: Did brother Adam take his rib out to barbeque when he came back home from the garden?
nah, i dont think so.
Q: My husband and I just bought our first home. We have been living in apartments for years and know nothing about gardening, etc.We pulled up a bunch of dead flowers, bushes, etc. around the house and now want to replant some. We know that we should plant perrenials, as I don't want to do this every year. I would like something that brings a little color to the garden. We have three different areas to plant them in. Two of the areas are not shaded, one is partially shaded.Any suggestions?
Keep in mind that perennials start small, but get larger every year. You need to leave them plenty of space to grow. This means that for the first 2-3 years, your garden may look a little bare. This is why it is a good idea to plant some annuals the first couple of years, as a filler until the perennials get a little larger. Also, as they grow larger, they can be split into 2, and used to plant in another area of your garden. All things to remember when choosing your plants. As for what to plant, go to a local nursery or garden center, and they will carry plants that will work well in your climate. Just find something you like. Each will be tagged with information about what type of environment it likes, from full sun, to full shade, to a mix of the two. Check how much water they require (some like a consistently wet soil whereas others don't mind a little dry period between waterings), especially if you're a low maintenance kind of gardener. Match the type of plants you like to where you'd like to plant them, and your style of gardening. If in doubt, ask someone to help you pick plants that will be a good fit for your garden and your gardening style. Most gardening turns out to be trial and error - something you expect to look beautiful one place, you find a year later it just doesn't give you the effect you wanted. You can always transplant or remove anything that seems out of place or that you don't like. It will take several years for your garden to get really established, and each year you'll start to learn a little more about what you like, what works, and what will grow best. Remember it's best to start planting by turning some fertilizer or compost into the soil, to give the new plants lots of nutrients to grow. Once you've planted, a nice layer of cedar mulch makes the garden look beautiful, gives off a lovely woodsy scent, helps your beds retain moisture, and makes it a little more difficult for weeds to take root. Good luck and have fun!
