Q: Some of my Friends are saying quot;WOWquot; and other things, Im just going to grow Vegetables and Some Flowers (to make it look nice). What should I do?
Some of the most famous garden designers and gardeners in the UK are men - so don't let anyone put you off. Growing fruit and vegetables is great - I grow blackcurrants, raspberries, wild strawberries, courgettes and green beans and my daughters (one of whom is 13) loves eating them off the bushes - well the raspberries anyway! Flowers are good in a veg garden because they encourage bees and other pollinators. Sounds to me like you should find out about cottage gardens because they mix up flowers and veggies - might be worth looking at the website below under Cottage Gardens for some info on the type of flowers you might try. Go for it - and good luck!
Q: I do know that if I plant it this year it won't grow until next year or the year after. I just need some advice on the best asparagus to grow in the midwest growing region and how to care for it. Can anyone give me some useful tips please.

Q: WHat are your plans for the spring, Vacation, Gardening, buying a new home? Whats your agenda?
I have a new home, but it needs Gardens and Flowers and Fountains, and Trees and a Pond and a Patio and Planters and..............(anyone here do landscape design??) :) my poor husband.......
Q: I'm planting a garden in a few weeks and i need some help. What are any tips you guys might have?
Keep soil moist and loose...if you have a choice of locations, morning sun is better than the hot afternoon/evening sun. Most vegetables do best in a sandy loam soil...if you have a heavy clay soil, then you can lighten it by adding perlite or even some sand. If you have a very sandy soil with not much topsoil, then you can help retain moisture by adding some peat moss. You can also use a cheap mulch (pine bark mulch) to retain moisture and keep roots cool from the hot afternoon sun. It's also a good idea to pick up a pH test kit from local home and garden center to check the pH of your soil. If the soil is too acidic, then your plants won't be able to access any nutrients from the soil. Adding lime will raise the pH to a good level of 5.5 - 7 if it's low.
Q: Athiest, without the Bible's absolute authority, how do you decide which homes and gardens are better?
The Bible does not represent absolute authority, so the question is moot. We ALREADY are in that situation(i.e. without the Bible's absolute authority) every day.
Q: Do you think it would be a good software to use? Its called Better Homes and Gardens Home Designer
Absolutly...I have it and works great! good luck
Q: For a historical short story I'm writing I need this information. Thanks.
Home life was relatively untouched - unlike WW2. During WW 1 there were no bombing raids, nor rockets launched. The main effect was that so many of the ablebodied men were in the armed forces, or in the navy, There were shortages, but more people at that time had home gardens, kept chickens etc, so the shortages weren't anywhere near as severe as during WW2.
Q: I have a large garden in my backyard that I am trying to cultivate. However the soil is very clay-like and hardens quickly like corn field dirt. Its too large to cover with miracle grow or anything and hand tilling it as well as keeping things alive in it is very hard. Any suggestions?
Start with a smaller area, make some raised beds out of wood, and place the frames on the ground. Dig the soil inside each frame, and pile it all around the out side. Find out if someone has horse manure that they want to get rid of, and fill you raised bed with horse manure. Water the horse manure for two weeks, then buy strong flower and veggie plants, and plant them in the raised bed. This will give you a start until your soil gradually improves. One more thing about horse manure, a lot of cities collect, and take it to the dump. See if they would bring you a load.
Q: If you were a family looking for a ranch home, and there were about 2500 sq feet up and another 2500 sq feet of renovated heated space below in the basement, and there was a full kitchen above and below, with a big garden in the front of house and back, would you feel it would be too much area to clean and maintain, taking into consideration that the basement would not be suitable for renting out, as the door leading out of the basement does not have a driveway, since one has to walk over the garden to reach the garage on the main level. The main level is additionally, connected to the basement by means of steps going down within the house into the basement. I feel one would out of necessity need to built a driveway to the basement door in order to be able to sell it with rental potential, as otherwise the area might be too big, in addition to two kitchens being too much to maintain for one family......Any suggestions or tips or ideas?
If your primarily concerned with renting out some of the space then you should focus on a house where that would be the most convienent. A renter is not going to care that you want a tenant, they only want to know how convienent the space is for them (i.e. not having it be a pain to go in/out). Don't try to force it, find something that works.
