Q: I have old pergo floors in the dining and kitchen area and tile everywhere else in the house. How hard is it to remove both types of floors and how do I go about removing each? I want to put down real hardwoods and carpet in the bedrooms. Also, new tile in kitchen and bathrooms.
If your new floor will go on top of the old floor, you'll need to trim the bottom of the doorjambs (figure A) so you can slide the new floor underneath. To cut the jambs, take a scrap piece of your underlayment and tile, place them on top of each other to show the correct height, and cut the doorjamb with a jamb saw. Remove the appliances and furniture from the room and then carefully remove the shoe mold with a hammer and pry-bar. If your molding is in good condition you can replace it after you have installed the new floor. Remove any transition strips from the area where you'll be installing the vinyl tiles. * If you are planning on reusing your old shoe mold it is a good idea to number each piece consecutively on the back so that when you get ready to replace it the process will go much quicker. To determine the square footage of the area you're tiling, multiply the length and width. If the room has an irregular shape, you may want to get the square footage of different sections of the room and then add those numbers together. Add 10 percent to your total to allow for mistakes and waste. When you've finished measuring, you can begin attaching your underlayment (figure B). Make sure to install it rough-side down so that the wood texture doesn't show through the new vinyl. Attach the underlayment with staples, stapling as indicated on the underlayment material. If you are using unmarked plywood, you should nail or staple at least every 5 to 6 inches in the middle of the plywood and every 3 inches along the edges.
Q: The sub floor in my kitchen was nailed in. About 10 years ago I put down vinyl tile squares and within the past 10 years the nails have been coming up through the tile. I am about to replace the floor with a vinyl sheet, I don't want this to happen again so how can I prevent this without taking out all the nails in the entire floor and replacing them with screws?
If you can't raise the floor and don't want to remove all the nails then your best bet is to put screws in next to the nails. This will hold the subfloor tightly down and help to stop the nails from creeping up. intermittent moisture will still swell and shrink the wood though which will pop up the nails eventually.
Q: I have Brazilian Walnut flooring throughout my downstairs. I have used every wood cleaning product known to man and still have dull floors. The latest thing I did was apply amonia to strip the floor of all of the products I have used and WOW what a mistake! I can now see splatters and scrub marks all over. Can someone please offer any advise??
The floor may be dull from the different products used on it. You may consider hiring a hardwood floor contractor to buff and recoat the floor. This is a very simple process that usually runs $1 per square foot and takes only about 1-2 hours to do. This will remove some surface scratches and bring back the shine for a fraction of the cost of a full sand and refinish. It involves very little mess. Then after you have the floors recoated use Bona hardwood floor cleaner. they even make a spray mop similar to the wet swiffer.
Q: My front door leads into my living room. The oak floor right infront of the door is so messed up. The rest of the floor is fine. How do I do a good sand/cleanup job on just this part????
Only if your floor is a natural oak floor( no stain) or if you have some stain , you might be able to do this. You can partially sanded and refinish a natural floor since you don t have to blend in a stain.. If its stained I d recommend a whole floor sanding... GL
Q: Strengthen the composite floor to choose V-shaped chamfer or U-shaped chamfer good?
Are equally strong and durable
Q: how much it cost to cork floor 900 square feet. I mean at least and at most, where do you buy it from? who installs it? how much for installation?how long will it last?thanks.
Cork okorder Quality cork will last as long as you want it to. 50 to 150 years if you want it to and give proper maintenance. Care is about the same as a hardwood floor. For 900 sf your price will be $3600 to $9000, depending on your selection. installation will be about $3500 + - . Be sure you get a very professional installer, cork needs to have someone who knows how.
Q: Solid wood flooring in the air-conditioned room why Alice
Floor quality department clearance, high water content, due to air-conditioned room dry, floor water evaporation caused by crack.
Q: When laying solid wood flooring how much loss rate is normal?
Normal in about five percent.
Q: Just touch the wood floor, there are some unfamiliar. Our wooden floor is imported from Japan, many aspects are better than the domestic, but I am hungry hungry barnyard thirsty leek half blood report is suffering from the introduction when the idea is not clear, how can I introduce? Our wooden floor is not afraid of water, and are all solid wood, relative to the strengthening of our wooden floor is mainly around the green, how can we introduce the characteristics of our wooden floor? More
Give you the point of application. First, you have to understand your floor all the performance, features and so on. Second, you have to brag, really bragging can get a lot of benefits, which can learn from the way people will brag. Third, you are looking for customers who are interested in your floor. Come on.
Q: I have dark wood colored laminate floors and I can NOT find a streak free cleaner. HELP!
Laminate floors are very low maintenance. Ironically, if you use a lot of cleaning products on them, they will actually look worse...they will get smudges and streaks, like you're experiencing. And never use steam...steam can absolutely ruin laminate floors. It can cause warping and even cause the veneer to peel right off. Having said this, exactly how do you maintain a laminate floor? Mostly just by vacuuming it. When you need more than a vacuuming, use a microfiber mop and plain old water. No cleanser, no vinegar, no nothing...just water. Let the mop do the work. Microfiber is fantastic at removing dirt and streaks and doesn't need a cleanser to help. In your case, I would definitely vacuum and then mop with a microfiber mop. Wet the mop and use it. No need to dry the floor, but also don't let water pool on the floor. You want a good damp mop, but not puddles of water. (Streaks of water are ok.) If you don't already have a microfiber mop, you can buy them at Walmart, Target, Kmart, Home Depot, and even Dollar General. I've never used anything but a vacuum and a microfiber mop (plus water) on our laminate floors and they still look fantastic after all these years. Hope this helps. -
