Q: I just found the cabinet underneath my bathroom sink to be completely soaked and this is the second time its happened, first time was a couple months ago. Take out any and all stuff in the cabinet, get a flashlight, turn on the faucet full-blast, and have a look for leaks. Feel free to poke and prod things while this is happening, as it may disclose a weak or loose fitting. Go for any found. Also look for leaks where there shouldn't be any with good parts - like just behind the handle on the shut-off valves (non-repairable, just replace). Finally, with kids, it may be possible that enough water has been splashed up top, around the faucet base or the edge of the sink, to have leaked down into the cabinet, even with connections underneath OK. Just be thorough, and you'll find it.

Q: I have gurgling noise in my bathroom sink. I have snaked up through the vent pipe-through the bathroom sink (and that will stop the gurgling for a few months but then it comes back). I don't beleive the snake goes all the way to the roof (but I'm sure it's close). Gurgling is caused by gas or air being forced out of the sewer pipe when the water drains from the sink. A cup of water goes down the sink, a cup of gas or air is forced back up the pipe to make room for the water. The vent stack is not working properly. It should allow gas and air to flow in and out of the sewer pipe freely. Obviously something is blocking the pipe. The blockage may not be above the sink, it could be below the sink, near where the drain enters the sewer line, or in the sewer line. Run the snake all the way from the roof down into the sewer line to make sure the vent stack is clear. Then put something like a screen over the top of the vent stack to prevent things from getting into it and plugging it again. Make sure the screen is small enough to keep out wasp and other insects that will build paper nest in the pipe and plug it.
