- Q: I need to patch a section of my carpet. The size I need to patch is 2 feet by 1 1/2 feet. I will be patching just a few inches from the wall/front door. Here's my questions:1. Will the patch job be noticeable at all or will it blend in to the other carpet? 2. Will the replaced carpet piece be loose or need stretched? 3. What if the carpet I am patching doesn't exactly match because my current carpet is used and the patch will be brand new? I've never done this before so any advice for a first timer would be awesome! Thanks!
- Hire a pro. They will come in match the carpet if possible, they should then cut out the old piece, and tape in the new one from the bottom, using a wax based tape and hot iron
- Q: Me and my husband have been searching apartments for rent and 90% come with carpets. Being both from Europe, we are not used to the smell of carpet. We just wondered what happened in this country that so many people use carpets.
- After WWII, wall-to-wall carpeting was considered a luxury-- something that signified success, etc. Previously, homes were built with wood floors and people put down area rugs for comfort, warmth, and to muffle sound. For several decades after the war, just about everyone who could afford it had wall to wall carpeting--- soft for the feet, comfortable to sit or lie on, etc. I've even seen bathrooms and kitchens carpeted-- how impractical is that? But people wanted their homes to be like soft nests... a cozy refuge from the 'cold cruel world'. Newer homes in the U.S. have gone back to more wood, marble, tile etc. because people like the look and the cleanliness. In older homes many people are ripping up the carpeting to refinish the underlying wood, if it exists, or put in new flooring. As people have become more aware of the effects of molds and dust on our health, many people want to avoid carpets, which trap such things. Things come and go in fashions, including in home decorating. One reason, however, that many apartments still may be carpeted is to dull the sounds for the people who live below. If the apartment was not built with good sound insulation in the floors and walls, carpeting helps to absorb noise, and makes living close to others easier. Newer buildings have much sound insulation, so, while more expensive because they are new, they will have less carpeting. I, personally, have some parts of my home with natural wood and ceramic tile, but the family room where everyone tends to sit/lie around on the floor as well as the furniture when we watch movies etc. is thickly carpeted. We are very casual-- and the kids like to roll around, do somersaults etc. and the carpet is soft. (and relatively clean)
- Q: A large area of tea stains on the carpet how?? For a long time
- Use a little vinegar or fresh lemon juice drops in the carpet stains, use a soft brush to brush, then use the carpet special foam detergent wash. The area is too big to come up several times. If it is an ordinary chemical fiber carpet, this operation is not a problem, if it is a silk or wool carpet
- Q: It's a latex based paint, and a nylon carpet. Anyone have any tips on getting it out? The carpet is a gray color. Thanks so much :)
- Paint thinner and acetone won't work...it will just work the paint deeper into the carpet. However, you can usually remove paint spatter with scissors. Often spatter is just on the very tips of the fibers. If this is the case you can just snip the paint off with sharp scissors. Just cut the very tips of the fibers. Work slowly. Don't cut a single millimeter more than you have to and pull up while cutting. This will help prevent divots in the carpet. Try your best to do just one or two fibers at a time...not a whole clump. And dissect the spills first by cutting them in half or thirds, so that you separate clumps. This will work unless you have already used a solvent and have worked the paint into the carpet. Also...cutting the spatter on shag or plush carpet, but not Berber or loopy carpet. Good luck. - It worked for me
- Q: It's dark brown colour, the carpet is nearly brand new!!Any sensible ideas on how to get it out? Thanks.
- An unfortunate accident with hair dye can make cleaning carpet a nightmare. In many cases, it may even mean the end of your carpet. Hopefully it won't come to this. There are a few things you can try to remove carpet stains of this nature. First of all, it should go without saying that if hair dye is spilled on the carpet one should act immediately. Dampen a sponge and apply dishwashing liquid. Blot the stain with the sponge until you've lifted as much of the dye as possible. You can also try doing the same thing with vinegar. If this doesn't work and the stain hasn't set into the carpet too deep, you might be able to snip the very top fibers of the carpet without anyone knowing. If none of this works, you'll have to call in a professional who makes cleaning carpet stains his business or rearrange your furniutre to hide the stain...
- Q: so how can i clean a really short haired carpet without chemicals? i've heard something like really hot boiled water in a spray bottle, then sprayed all over the carpet, then vacuuming the carpet works? would it? any help is appreciated, of and its brown normally, im just trying to get some of the dirt and cat hair out of it. thankyou =]
- Try some powdered borax. Sprinkle on a small section of the carpet first and try covering with a towel for a few minutes to stop any chance of the cat licking it (will make him very sick). Then vacuum it up properly. If this isnt something you want to try just get a bucket of warm water and some eucalyptyus oil in it...very little. Get a large sponge and soak it in the water then wring it out so its damp. Rub in one direction over the carpet - this should bring the hair together into a moist clump that can be vacuumed up easily.
- Q: I have a 5x7' area rug on my carpeted floor that moves an inch every time I walk across it. I want it to stay still, but I must be cautious cuz the whole point of the rug is to protect the carpet which I can't afford to replace. I've tried putting heaven stuff on top of the rug (ie. hamper, edge of dresser), but if I do, it still moves and bunches up on one side.
- attempt utilising a hair dryer on the tape to loosed the glue, then peel up the tape as you flow with the hair dryer, you may attempt utilising white vinegar mixed with warm water and a nicely wrung out fabric to do away with any residue from the glue and between the plastic putty knifes to gently scrape...if this dosne't paintings attempt spraying WD 40 on the cheesy factors, this would desire to be risk-free because of the fact the biggest element in WD40 is fish oil! study guidelines on the can till now utilising on the floor just to be risk-free...good success
- Q: Which is more harmful to the human body, the plastic carpet or the cement?
- Plastic (PVC) is not possible due to the release of formaldehyde, the domestic plastic floor (PVC floor) used in the production of additives is relatively poor, a serious odor, imported PVC floor adopts production technology and advanced production technology, to replace the pungent odor additives smell, so the PVC floor is at present the most environmentally friendly all the floor in the floor. So I suggest using the PVC floor, sheet, floor or coil flooring.
- Q: Can I use hydrogen peroxide for my carpet cleaning machine to clean the carpet?
- This site show on how to clean your carpet. Just follow the tips. It makes your carpet beautiful and fresh.
- Q: When performing Salat, is a rug (or an equivalent) optional?
- The reason why a rug is used for salat is: 1. To provide a context for prayer. 2. A matter of tradition (many Muslims use other things that rugs). 3. To provide a limited space for prayer. The Qur'an does not compel Muslims to use a rug, but it does compel cleanliness during prayer, so I would strongly recommend you using a rug or its equivalent if it is available to you.
