We have a 5x7 area rug in the middle of the floor, it's just a simple flat maroon area rug bought from Walmart. Is there anything I can place underneath the area rug that won't scratch the flooring and that will keep pet stains from seeping through to the laminate flooring. - Im lucky our dry cleaner has very large front load washing machines that take them quite well. Although you can never get them perfect I wash them in the hottest water available. I do not care about color washing out. I want them clean. I also use either a blanket cleaner or I just buy the soap for infants that way it does not irritate their skin next winter. But before I take them I usually leave them over a fence during the spring rain to help wash as much of both sides. I usually rotate between big storms to clean both sides. I also don't want my care to smell to bad. I love horses but my job requires taking people around in my car. Just my 2 cents.

- Hmm. I have bought the same type of rug only in a dark blue with the note to spot clean. I had the same thing happen except on linoleum. I didn't really pay much for it so I thought I'd try washing it on a gentle cycle, the materials it was made from was pretty durable (don't know what yours is made of) so I washed alone and added vinegar to the wash (which is said will set the color). I washed mine on a medium load to make sure the water completely covered the rug, add the vinegar to the water as its filling. I poured mine in but if I had to guess I used about 2 cups and don't use detergent. I stopped the cycle and let the rug sit in the solution for about 1/2 hour then continued the wash cycle. I thought it did a good job. I used the vinegar/water wash a few times and noticed that it did help with the bleeding. Good luck whatever you end up doing.
