- Q: I have broken tiles that i desperately need to fix ,but i cant seem to find a match for the existing tile , is there any place that make the tile for me?
- Maybe a pottery shop could possible make a close looking tile but it would still stick out like a sore thumb. You ll have to give them an exact measurement of the tile since most tiles are a nominal size( 12x12 are more often 11 3/4). Then you ll have to give them a sample pc of the tile to try and get color , texture and glazing close as possible.. This may not even be feasible for them to do. I would continue to search. If you could get me some details of the tile I d be gladly try and help you.(Exact size, manufacturer ,age, anything and every thing) Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there..GL
- Q: I would like to redo my entire house in ceramic tile floors but money is tight. I‘m planning to do the entire thing with leftovers I can get from other people who have finished their own tile projects. Is it possible ot use wall tiles on the floor for small areas? Are wall tiles able to withstand the pressure of walking? Any advice?
- It depends on the exact tile and where you are putting them. Some say wall tile on a show board ( for example) but can be used on floors also in certain areas of the house ( bath rooms 1/2 baths) If they do have a real shiny surface on them , they ll have a 0 rating , meaning walls only. Some other that say walls , that have a matte finish, can be used on the floor in baths. These have a 1-2 rating for slip resistance. Putting the tiles down properly is the biggest thing to be concerned with. Almost any tile put down properly wil not break. Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check out my qualifications there. I ve sold and installed tile for over 20 years now. GL
- Q: Hello Everyone, I have been given option by my builder for option amongst vitrified, Indian and Italian tiles? Should it be separate for living/bed/room and kitchen. Only serious replies please. Thanks
- I ve worked with tiles for over 20 years and I find no difference in tiles from different areas such a Italian , Indian .USA, Brazil, China etc. They all have excellent and garbage tiles. The vitrified tiles is a type of tile as is ceramic and porcelains. Usually a bit harder bodied and the the sizing is better on vitrified tiles. Get what coloring and style fits your needs. You have any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: ok, I am grouting my ceramic tile in my kitchen and I sponged the tile when I was done and waited for everything to dry. I buffed the dry grout off of the tiles and I noticed that there is dry grout on the tiles and I can‘t get it off. Is there anything I can buy to take the grout off of the face of the tiles before I seal them? Please help.
- I just tiled my kitchen too. I wiped them down a million times before I sealed them. Some parts I had to sponge more then others. I dont know how long you let the tiles sit beofre you grouted...I waited about a day. Then grouted and wiped a million times. I then waited about 3 days before sealing the grout. It looks pretty good. If its only a few tiles, try scrubbing a bit harder over that area. The sealer might help too once you get it on there.
- Q: THis will be done in the powder room. Also, I am planning not to use backerboard because the tiles will be 9 x 12
- I recently tiled a room of approximately the same size. Not including the cost of the tile, it cost about $150.00. I used quick set, which costs about $40 per tub. One tub, if used properly, should be enough. If the floor on which you are installing the tile is not concrete, you should stronly consider using the backing board. This will help reduce the chances of the grout, and tile from cracking. If installed on a wooden (plywood) floor, the floor can flex, resulting in cracking of the tile and grout.
- Q: What is better tiles or carpet in a living room considering I have 3 kids ( 4 , 3 and 2 ) ? what about the kitchen?
- If you are looking for the easiest to maintain, definitely tile. Being a living room, and having young kids, I would assume they play there, so carpet would be much kinder to falls that the little-ones will have. You can always have both, get tile and place an area rug over it, you can get the rug cleaned at a local dry cleaners or just get a cheap one that you can toss when the kids get older.
- Q: It‘s something I really want to do, I find myself longing for it often. Tile or ceramic, not sure yet. But, my house is 1485 square feet and I‘m wondering if anyone has a ball park estimate for what price range I‘m looking at! I know different variables like tile vs ceramic, etc, but just looking for a range if anyone can help. Thanks!
- I advise using ceramic tile rather then regular tile. It costs a little more, but it's worth every penny. Also, you'll be really pleased in the end if you choose a mingle of darker earth tones. We removed all the carpet from our home and had ceramic tile put in. My spouse chose a gray-cement tile for the upstairs. I chose the mingled earth tones for the downstairs. Cleaning these tiles is like night and day. Everything shows up on the gray. Whereas the downstairs tiles have never appeared to be dirty even when they are sometimes. I think we paid between $1.50 and $1.75 per tile at an outlet store. Don't let people tell you that shouldn't buy tile that is no longer being produced, since if one breaks you won't be able to replace it. All we did was buy more than we needed. The extra box remains unused because none of our tiles have ever chipped or broken.
- Q: I have kitchen tiles that have long term stains like broth and sauce stains. They won't come out with standard tile cleaner. Should I used bleach or will something else work better?
- I would try bleach first. If the tiles are on a wall vs being flat on a counter try a spray gel cleaner with bleach in it so that it sticks to it and let it sit for a while.
- Q: The house to decorate the floor in the choice of headache, wooden floor generous and beautiful, but will rot, will be deformed, have to resist termites; and tiles no problem, but now many people use wooden floor, personal really do not know how to choose The Is there any friend who can give professional advice?
- First look at the economy, money when he wood flooring, but no money to buy cheap wooden floor, might as well buy tiles Second, people see, tiles, you can use a mop, wood floor, to kneel rub, wax and so on. Lazy is free Followed by the knowledge of the bedroom installed wood flooring, the other is tiles
