Characteristic and Application.

Q: I wired an outdoor lamp-post. I tested it before wiring it to the fuse box...and if I touch the lamp-post I feel the current (a slight shock). I will be using a ground fault breaker....so I assume if I wire it to that I am going to loose the connection. Any thoughts on what is wrong?: You likely scratched the wire somewhere. When I did an outdoor shed the wire made a corner on some metal and scratched the insulation. It is a leak rather than hooking up the wrong wire, otherwise you would have gotten more than a tingle. First I would examine everywhere the wire comes in contact with the post. Second Check all the connections to see if some were improperly taped, or the wire was cut when stripping.

Q: I have some salvaged wire from a computer power supply and would like to know it's break-down voltage rating. Most hookup wire is rated at 600 volts but unfortunately, all computer stuff is now made in China. The repair job of a vintage piece of equipment requires wire that can withstand 300 VAC.: i couldn't tell you without knowing the amperage in those 300vac because amps are what generate the heat but if you wanna know if its high quality or not strip the psu wire and if its silver its good wire if its copper..... use at your own risk

Q: i need to connect a new bathroom light/fan combo to existing wiring. Existing wiring is black/white/red/copper. The new fixture wiring is black/blue/white/white. Thanks: The existing wiring should be as follows: Black and Red are both hot. White is neutral. Copper is ground. The fan/light fixture should be as follows: Black and Blue are hot for the light and fan separately. White and White are neutral for the light and fan separately. Connect all 3 white wires. Connect the two black wires. Connect the Red and Blue wires. Connect the copper to metal on the fixture. The only thing left is to determine which switch is the light and which is the fan.

Q: Help me, please! I have an old air conditioning system...made in 1985, and the condenser fan went out. Long story short, I bought a new fan and I don't know how to hook it up. The old fan had 4 wires coming out of it: purple, black, green, and brown. The green is the ground and the brown and the purple went to the capacitor, black to power. Then there were two smaller black wires attached to the capacitor and they lead out to other components. My new fan has a green wire, a white wire, a black wire, a brown wire and a brown and white striped wire. My problem is this: I don't know where to attach the white wire or what to do with the two smaller black wires that were attached to the old capacitor. I was told by the gentleman who sold me the fan that I splice the white wire to purple wire - then do I hook that to the capacitor? What do I do with the two smaller black wires that lead out to other components??? (Cap them off???) I am confused and need some advice!: You should send it to a qualified service agent. Air conditioners use the coolant as a lubricant for moving parts. Replacing a fan may look easy buy I believe there is a degree of calibration to consider. Especially with an AC unit from 1985.

Q: i have a 92 saturn and bought the wire harness, i put all the wires together and all that turned on was the theft light that comes on when you take off the face after that i tried putting the red and yellow wires together and it worked, just without the key having to be in the ignition and i think that is why the stereo gets so hot so can youall tell me how to wire it correctly?: if leith was paying attention he would of realized you already have the wire that goes straight to the battery. YOU need a wire to hook up to the red one that comes on with the ignition. if the wire thats supposed to work for this dont for some reason you can 1. hook it into the fuse box with something that comes on with the key or 2.you can simply hook the yellow wire and a 4 foot peice of 12 g wire to the one that gives it power then with your extra wire run itout on the dash for a toggle switch and run that back to the red wire and remember to turn it off or you will have a dead battery in the morning :)

Q: have a kenmore dryer with 3 wires now had it will not dry need info on wiring it so it will dry: A dryer that does not heat usually has a burnt out heating element. Disconnect it from power and test the heating element with an ohm meter. Replace the heating element if the resistance is too high. A wiring diagram will probably not help.

Q: tryin to move dryer approx 8 more feet but existing wire not long enough have 12/2 wire can that be used to run 220 dryer: 12 wire is not heavy enough to pull a 220 dryer under any circumstances, and is against ANY code in America; and is a severe fire hazard. Besides, you need to have three wires - 10/3 0r 8/3 wire, anyway, so you would have a ground. Papaw

Q: a difference of 25 feet with 16 gague wire: You are not going to notice any difference at all at the length of 25 feet. If you are going to have 100 feet length then I would advice using a 14 gauge wire. It is not going to have any affect on your amp. Only the speaker resistance will have an affect on your power amplifier. Hope this will help you out.
