Q: I heard that if someone spilled paint on their rugs their insurance will pay for new rugs minus deductable. DId you ever hear of this?
An accidental spillage of paint or any other substance is normally covered under most homeowner policies when the spill damages the dwelling. This is a fortuitous event and not specifically excluded under most policies. If by 'rug' you mean a true rug and not wall to wall carpeting then most policies would not cover such an occurance as most policies are named peril for personal property including rugs. I've handled claims in many states and can't recall a policy that specifically states spillage of paint as a covered peril. As for the cleaning, as a former Insurance adjustor unless the cleaning is performed immediately and by a professional using a truck mounted extractor the paint would not be totally removed. Now it is true that your deductible would apply in this instance but there would also be a percentage of depreciation applied to your loss and in most cases the depreciation is not refundable even with the 'Replacement cost endorsement'.
Q: Funny but its stained red! How can i get it out of the carpet.
Fill a quart jar with a cup of ammonia, 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup vinegar and the rest can either use more ammonia or fill with water. I use more ammonia on tough stains and maybe because of the red color more would be better. Dampen some cleaning rags with the mixture and rub into or spray into the areas to be cleaned. When you've got it all then rinse with plain water or a little vinegar. You can also use a soft bristle brush to work it out and then rinse. maybe some of it is still there and it might have to be done twice to completely remove it all. Good Luck. Take an old towel to dry it somewhat and just put the towel on the floor and walk on it zig zaggy.
Q: Ok, i have a white area rug that has a few stains, nothing major.. I want to bleach it to not only get the stains out but i also love the smell of bleach, i bleach my blankets and my sheets every week. Im not really worried about ruining my rug, cause its not like its going to get any better. I know that you need to delute the bleach i just dont know how much to delute or how to go about cleaning the rug. Should i just poor it on or use gloves with a sponge and soak the areas?? Please help :) thanks!
Take the rug outside to your driveway. Clean a spot on your driveway (soap and water, brush and rinse). Place the rug on that spot. Dilute bleach 10:1. Use scrub brush with a handle. Scrub. Rinse with hose. Hang to dry.
Q: The rug is 6' x 8'
Try Duct or masking tape...not to stick it to the floor but turn it over....attach the duct tape to the outer edge of the under rug and pull it back until it curves just a wee bit. Not an extreme curve just a little....run the tape back a foot or two and flip it back over...maybe the pressure of the tape pulling will keep the corners from lifting. Good Luck!
Q: hi we bought a new black wool rug last week and since then my life has been taken over by little black hairs! they are all over the laminate floor, the furniture and our clothes. i have tried sweeping the rug but although i get quite a lot of hairs out of it, they just keep coming! my friend got a wool rug a year ago and although it has settled a bit she still has a similar problem. is there anything i can do to speed up the excess fluff loss or am i going to spend the rest of my time with a dustpan and brush in my hands?
new rugs shed... fact of life... doesn't matter whether it's wool or a synthetic fiber.... use the vacuum often... empty it often.... keep vacuuming..... it can take as much as a year for it to settle down.... do NOT use a Rug Doctor on a WOOL rug!.... just vacuum.... LOL!!... get a black kitty or puppy and blame it on them!!....
Q: I'm looking to hang about door size carpet pieces on my closet walls [don't ask why] and was wondering a good adhesive to use or if I should just use nails?
Or, use a 'rod' (i.e. 'dowel rods') through the top of the 'turned over' top piece of the carpet and hang it up with ribbon or cord attached to the rod and then drill your wall and put a screw or two in and hang the ribbon off that! You could use ribbon or cord to match the colour of your room? Hope this helps:)
Q: Somehow molten candle wax got dropped in my carpet and its really hard now. How can i remove it without destroying my carpet?
Place 3 or 4 layers of paper towel on the wax, and press it with a clothes iron on a lowish setting. The iron will melt the wax the towels will absorb it.
Q: How can I tear out the carpet in my bathroom (was already in there when moved in) and what tools will I need?
Pulling the carpet is no problem. It may just pull up by starting at an edge or you can help by simply cutting it with the mentioned above utility knife. BUT! Work carefully. You might have a cool floor underneath and you don't want to cut at it with the knife. And the carpet is held at the edges with a tack strip. Use care near them or the tacks will stick you and they hurt!! Sounds funny, but I use pliers to grab and pull.
Q: What happens if the seat and carpet are dirty in the car?
The first bonded solid candy removed, then stained with hot water cloth removed, then stained with hot water cloth to remove residual liquid sugar, reoccupy cleaner to remove traces of sugar.
Q: How do I avoid over-charge by the carpet company as a reuslt of over-measure the room size? I have two rooms, room I is 10'6'' by 29'2quot;. Room II size is 11'8quot; by 12' 10quot;, with a closet size 7' by 2'4quot;. The carpet comes in width of 12'. How many sq ft do I need to order the carpet for room I and room II? For room I, the carpet size, without adding any buffer space for edge trimming, is 12' * 29'2quot; = 356 sq ft. For room II, the carpet size, without adding any buffer space for edge trimming, is 12' * 12'10quot; = 154 sq ft. The room II closet is 12 * 2'4'' = 28 sq ft. How many add'l sq ft do I need to add to allow buffer for trimming in each room? ThanksSM
I spent 3 years being a flooring specialist and the carpet company should be willing to sit down with you and show you the different ways you can place your carpet. You will be purchasing the entire width x the length you need. Seeing how both of your rooms will work with a 12' carpet seeming shouldn't be a question. Seams at closet doors are common and acceptable. In general you can figure about a 5 to 10% waste-in your case 5% probably is more than adequate. There isn't a whole lot of extra needed for trimming purposes because carpet is streched when it is installed. I don't think I have ever sold more than one linear foot of extra unless there are doorways or seriously uneven walls to consider. Home Depot and Lowes will give you a copy of their measure and cut sheet as do most carpet companies. If they aren't willing to show you exactly what you are buying-don't buy.
