- Rag Rugs are usually pretty durable, so take it to your local laundromat that has a large capacity washer (some are double loads and some even have quadruple load washers) and throw it in with some regular laundry detergent on cold. I would spin it as dry as you can in the machine and then take it home and let it air dry. It could shrink if you throw it in the dryer. It should wash up very well.

Most people think MORE is BETTER but, that's NOT the case with carpet steamers... What happens is all the soap doesn't get picked up and eventually it dries and settles into the carpet where it attracts even more dirt particles.. So, if you use a carpet steamer cleaner just go easy on the soap and/or rinse with clean, clear no-soap water... Good luck
