Q:My wife and I have a 5' X 7' area rug which we want to dye brown. It's a deep pile wool rug and the fibers are dense. How does one go about this? Q:its brand new.. but it smells awful.. like a burnt popcorn/broken vacuum smell.i tried to let it air out for days .. not working.. and its too heavy to bring otuside.. its very light colored.. is it okay to ripe it down with soap and water and a rag?? will the soap do anything to the rug?and is there a better option? to wash it with: The best way to keep a rug clean is to keep it from getting dirty in the first place. Removing outdoor shoes when entering the house (as people do in most rug-weaving countries) is a good idea if this accords with your lifestyle. Bare-foot or sock-foot traffic is much gentler to a rug than a hard outdoor-shoe sole (or spike heel), and leaving your outdoor shoes at the entrance to the house tracks in much less dirt. Be aware that it is not advised to use carpet shampoos or sprays! **************************************... Carpet shampoos if not rinsed out thoroughly, usually end up attracting more dirt, and with carpet shampooing machines (especially ones with several brushes) care must be taken to avoid damage to your area rugs. Know that if you do plan to shampoo your carpet yourself you should first sweep or brush the carpet so that the nap stands up and loosens any embedded dirt. Then vacuum. By doing this, the carpet might look clean enough so that you could delay shampooing it. Neutralize odors by sprinkling a mixture of 1 cup Borax and 2 cups cornmeal. Allow to stand for an hour before vacuuming. You can also use commercially available fragrance powders for vacuums they might work too. You can sprinkle baking powder all over the carpet.The longer you leave the baking soda on the floor, the better it will clean and freshen the carpet up. It cleans up the area where the smell originated and stops it from getting in the air. Hope you are able to get rid of the smell with no harm to the carpet!! Good Luck !!

There is something to make it scratch less though! It is called a cat scratch post. You can buy them at PetSmart or Petco. Ask a vet and they will have suggustions.

Q:I just moved into this house and im so paranoid about keeping the floor in good shape, i have a 1 year old and a puppy who are making it kinda hard. So, I need a rug, my living room isnt very big at all, and in fact the living room is kinda long, but not 'big'. I want a red rug, dont know where to search though, and it would be great if i got it at a low price too, what size is a 2x3 by the way? I found one for 20 bucks, but not sure if thats like the size of a rug you put at the entrance of your doorway? help please.: A 2-foot by 3-foot rug would be fine at your doorway, but it won't give the rest of the room any protection, just a place to wipe your feet when you enter the house. Your room-area rug can be as big as the room will accomodate...but the bigger the rug, of course, the more $$$ you'll have to invest. You could start with a 6-foot by 9-foot in front of your sofa, which you could probably get at Walmart/Target/K-Mart for around $125. It will be nylon, and it won't last an eternity, but it should do until your puppy matures! Then you could look at investing in a nicer rug that won't get chewed on...or you-know-whatted on.....Good luck!

Q:I've recently noticed rugs popping up on my yards in the evenings, it goes down to around 4oC here at night right now, and all horses are in their own fields, not in a herd. I personally am not too sure on rugging yet. My mare is a 16.2, 10 year old Irish Sports Horse, and I simply refuse to clip her for my own reasons. She has been rugged for most of her life with her old owner, and obviously it's unfair of me to deny her rugging now, so no rug is not an option.I was just wondering how cold it has to get before you start rugging. I myself will rug in horrible rain, and at 1oC or below, but should I be doing it at higher temps? I don't want to ruin the growth of her winter coat, and she gets hay and a feed every night.: I also agree with the first answer. My horse is not blanketed during the winter and I live in Wisconsin where it gets pretty cold during the winter. He just turns into a very fuzzy horse during the winter. I do cover him after I have worked him so he does not get chilled then. Addition: If your horse is older, or possibly has issues keeping weight on during the winter it may be beneficial to blanket. But as long as your horse does not appear to be deficient in a winter coat then you should not have to blanket.

Q:i get all these fuzz fluffs coming off my wool rug. will it eventually disintegrate into nothing?: Depends what those fluffs are....... uld be natural fluff on the wool, could be broken fibers..............and that's not good. If broken fibers, could be moth damage or other insects living in the wool. Vacuum daily. Have the rug cleaned especially it has had food, animal products, or a lot of foot traffic across it.
