- Q: For all carpet experts....I accidentally spilled bleach on a small section of carpet in my apartment. I cut out the affected area and tried to patch it with a piece from the closet but the colors dont match. How does the carpet dying process work? - I think everyone should invest in a Bissell carpet steamer. They're no more expensive than a vacuum cleaner, and they sure do come in handy for cleaning tough stains in carpets. There's a special Pet Formula detergent they sell (I think Walmart sells it in a generic formula, too), that does a great job of getting up cat stains. It's a lifesaver for me.
- Q: Carpeting a 1400 sq. ft. office. Price is an issue. I would like to lay them directly on plywood floor (no 1/4quot; underlyment). Will plywood seams show through? Should I even consider laying them without gluing down? Any experience good/bad? And suggested source? I see them on internet for $.66 sq foot for excess inventory. Thanks!
- you can lay carpet tile onto plywood and yes you should definitely glue them down. without glue the tiles will be all over the place. here is a tip. when you lay the tiles down rotate every other tile 1/4 turn so that it makes like a checkerboard pattern. you will have a much better cover and it will hide any imperfections in the carpet tiles.
- Q: While yard-selling I came into a massive 9 by 7 grizzly bear rug with wavy blond hair in perfect condition for 20 dollars. Of course, I bought it. It's completely real, there is even a mole or two on the hyde if you look close. A good friend says they go for around 10,000 dollars. How much do you think, and where would I go to sell it?

I don't have access to expensive supplies so I'll need to know how to do it myself with out steam `cleaners or anything else... - For a rug this large, I suggest using either a foaming cleaner, like Woolite Spray Foam Carpet cleaner or a dry granule cleaner like Capture or Resolve. The both types of cleaners are a simple application. Just spray on the foam, agitate with a brush to work into the fibers, allow to dry and vacuum up. Dry granule, sprinkle on surface and work into the fiber with a brush and let dry, then vacuum. If you have spots or stains, just work either into it with a brush. I like the Woolite because it also contains a scotch guard that leaves a stain repellent and makes cleaning up spills easier without staining.
- Q: I have a Nepalese oriental rug. I assume its wool (thought it may have man made fibres in it).I've cleaned various spills with water over the years - with no probs.It really needs a clean.. can I clean it with cold water? Is this dangerous?I'd like to just take it out and wash it down with a hose... Thanks
- You can hose it down but the problem is that it will be sopping wet so it will take forever to dry. Also, professional rug cleaning people who use this method have a way of extracting the water out (vacuum table) so that the colors don't run from being wet too long. Since you don't have the material, I would suggest a carpet shampooer (injection/extraction) or if not, have a wet dry vac handy to suck up the maximum amount of water from the rug and be able to hang it over a bar in a very well ventilated area. You will have to turn it once every few hours. The biggest risk is that the colors run after X time being wet.
- Q: I have a rug imported from Iran. It is made of wool on a silk backing. My cat was sick on it and some of the color ran—vermilion into cream color. It is getting a bit dingy and I would like to get it cleaned. Is there any way to get the pinkinsh stain out of the cream part. It is a beautiful rug.

- shaw carpet is good carpet 55 oz is great the most important thing is to get the best is a 8lb padding. you can cut cost on carpet but if you use the standard crap padding it wont felt as nice and your carpet will last about half as long as it would using the good padding.

- It's just a rug!!!! If it was someone's personal prayer rug then, yes it would be offensive. The rugs sent to you have never been used by someone as a prayer rug so let the kids play!
