Q: I have a microfiber sofa and love seat i got from value city furniture and it didn't come with care instructions and my son kind spilled soda on it the cushions unzip i was wondering if it would be safe to toss it the washing machine on gentle with cold water the air dry to get them clean or use my handheld steam cleaner: its almsot always a bad idea to was the cushion covers in the washing machine. The covers get distorted, they no longer fit like they are suposed to the seams will not line up it looks weird. You can always tell when someone does this. The handheld steamer will work better, however with micro-fibre you cannot spot clean, its very noticable if you do. You will have to clean the whole sofa. The good news is micro-fibre is almost always heavily stainguarded which means stains clean out of it very easily

In case anyone doesn't know what SOFA status means it is the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA). I'm am wondering if there is anyone on this forum that has done it before? I have read in previous answers that you must live at Japanese addresses for five years. I'm not sure working for the US Goverment would count. If he wants to become a permanent Resident of Japan, he must follow Japanese immigration laws. SOFA bestows upon him American rights in a foreign Country. he would have to give up SOFA status to become a Permanent Resident of Japan.

Q: I have a small living room and have been trying to find suitable furniture that is not too overstuffed/big. The other issue is that the door is 30-31 inches wide and most furniture heights and depths are bigger than this. I have looked at Ikea's products and I'm considering the Karlstad loveseat or the new Sater sofa, which is a 2.5 seat leather sofa. Is Ikea furniture comfortable and durable. How good is the leather? How well does the furniture age? I don't want it looking shabby after a short while. If you are not in the US, then you will need to apply for legal residency before leaving Germany when your spouse gets stationed back CONUS.

Any answers would be great, thanks: Buy enough fabric plus a a bit more to completely cover the sofa, sew a hem all the way around the fabric after cutting off enough to sew a long strip that is going around the bottom of the sofa. This strip has to be wide enough to put elastic in so it depends on the size of elastic, I used the round elastic. Place fabric properly on sofa tucking in at cushions etc then put the strip with elastic half way down the bottom of the sofa all the way around. This will hold it all in place and look more like it has been recovered.
