Q: Anyone know of a website that I could view carpet designs, get the pricing per square foot, and perhaps even an estimate on installation?: Look at Lowe's or Home Depot or google some local carpet stores. By the way, nylon carpet is cheapest, but wool lasts the longest and remains plushy longest. To tell how well the carpet will stand up, bend the sample and look at how close together the loops are. The closer, the better.

Q: I had roofs leaks in my 2 bedrooms (hurricane related) and filed an insurance claim. they covered replacing the carpet in the 2 bedrooms but NOT replacing the hallway and stairs' carpet because that was not damaged. The carpet is 10+ years old so of course i am replacing it all. I think it should be consider all one item, they say that because there is a 'break' between the room and the hallway, their practice is to only replace the damaged carpet -- though this is not defined in the policy. Q: I have a shag rug in my room. It's right infront of my mirror where I brush my hair, so now there is always hair caught in the shags of the rug. Also, dog hair gets caught in it from my dog. Sounds weird but back in the 70's when shag rug was in, raking was introduced to the carpets. If you rake it, it combs the direction of the carpet, but also pulls materials in from deep within the carpet. If this doesn't work...try a lint brush with teeth. Not a roller that picks up sticky stuff.

Q: without using a carpet cleaner: For the heavily soiled areas, use a rug stain remover, like Spot Shot or Resolve carpet cleaner. For the rest of the rug, use a cloth dampened with a white vinegar and water mix. It will clean and deodorize the rug. Turn a fan on, directed at the rug to help speed the dry time.

Q: Someone that moved in with me recently broke the wireless internet adapter to my computer and since I haven't figured out how to fix it I think it may be easier for me to just run a wire from the router to my computer. The problem is that the router is on the xbox in my room and the computer is in my living room 30 feet away. I am getting a 50ft Ethernet cable but I don't want to run it straight across my floor and plan to run it through my basement. I have hardwood floors in my room and there is already a hole to my basement there but my computer is over stretched carpet. I am wondering if I can put a small hole less than 1 inch in the carpet without damaging it or creating a spot that will wear more quickly.: If you need to drill a hole for a cable, don t try to go through carpet. Use a bit as small as possible to just get the wire through.. Carefully pull back the carpet just a bit ( a few inches) between the base board and the carpet. Drill at a slight angle between the carpet and the base board and between the tack strip. After running the cable, the carpet can be put back in place easily. Never drill through carpet, it can snag and pull threads out. And if you happen to have a continuous filament carpet, you can pull a whole row of carpet threads out.
