- Q: Ordinary gypsum board specifications
- Normal 1220MM * 2440MM, there are 3000MM * 1220MM, the thickness of 0.95CM, 1.2CM more
- Q: There's a substantial dent (bordering on being a deep crack/hole) in the middle of a 3 square meter piece of painted plasterboard. I need to repair it with something durable as it's in a prominent place and thus am not sure plaster will suffice. On-top of that it will need to be painted. What should I use?
- I would paint it with a flat latex paint. That will help hide some of your mistakes. Good luck!
- Q: i have some thin wavy mirrors attached to a painted plasterboard wall using 'no nails ultra' glue. any ideas on how to remove the mirrors without damaging the wall?
- You'll just have tp pry them off and repair the plaster...yes, there will be damage...no getting around it
- Q: What distance do the dry wall screws have to be and what do i fill the joint gaps with before plastering. Is there a british standard ?
- I would nail it with sheetrock nails.......but if you are pounding on someone else's half of the wall I would use sheet rock screws. You can put one in about every 8 across a stud. Try not to break the paper. For the joints instead of paper tape I use fiberglass self sticking tape.........it's usually blue or yellow and mud right over it. If you are going to plaster it well that's the same tape but a little different application of the mud. I just hand texture the mud and do a knock down trowel finish.......it looks nice.......and is fairly simple to do.
- Q: Replace rippled plasterboard tape?My house's interior walls are all plasterboard - not plaster on brick. As is usual with modern houses (built 1995) the vertical joints at the corners of the walls are joined by plasterboard tape. Unfortunately due to differential expansion/contraction the tape has become rippled. As I am about to paint a bedroom, should I replace the rippled tape with new plasterboard tape and apply some kind of polyfilla, smooth and sand it, OR expect continued minor movement and fill the corners with some kind of decorators caulk instead of plasterboard tape?I should add I think the movement is because the walls are made of different materials - one is an end wall - plasterboard on brickwork, the other a sloping ceiling, presumably plasterboard nailed to batons?? So, different degrees of exapnsion / contraction according to the temperature rather than settlement.
- The first answer is good. But you should know about fiber glass wallboard tape. It is a lot stronger than the paper but you need to completely embed it in compound. Otherwise it will show when sanded.
- Q: ive bought metal anchor bolts to fix semi pesistal basin to wall(4) but im not sure if its strong enough to hold it.i also cant work out how to connect same diameter waste pipe(cummin out of wall) to chrome waste trap?please help.
- If the wall is drylined this is the plasterboard is caught onto the blocks with blobs of adhesive, then the hollow between the plasterboard itself and the breeze block is maybe to be decrease than 0.5 an inch. - For a professional looking job you should repaint the ceiling. Use a lightweight premixed spackling compound...apply it over the damaged plasterboard with a putty knife and smooth to make a flush surface, after it is completely dry, sand any rough or uneven areas if necessary, paint with primer, then paint.
