Q: Can those JML pull up bars be used on a wall that isn't brick?: there's a video, and it's used on a regular door. reviewers all say it hasn't taken any damage / caused any to their door.

Q: I'm buying a cheap floating shelf for 20 so I can hang it on my bedroom wall (plasterboard). I'm buying it for a new stereo I'm getting , but I don't know how to hang the shelf up. I read somewhere that if you're putting a floating shelf on plasterboard you need to use toggle bolts. Can I just drill the holes in the wall , put wall plugs in , and then screw the shelf in to them. The stereo is a Samsung mini system with two seperate speakers. How can I put it up without a chance of it falling down ?: A shelf is a simple lever. If you have, say, a shelf 10 wide with a 2 vertical bracket, that's got a mechanical advantage of 5 - if you put a 10lb stereo on the edge of the shelf, there's 50lb of force trying to pull the top bolts out. So it depends on the shape of the shelf, the weight of the stereo, how far it is from the wall etc. Most likely it will be OK until you accidentally grab the shelf one day, in which case if you just used wall plugs they will tear out and everything will fall to the floor. If you can, try and get at least one screw into a stud and use toggles for the others.

Q: we've boarded out our eves in our attic and filled the gaps and screwholes with polyfilla. i'm a bit skint at the moment and the plasterer don't come cheaply! so i was thinking of painting straight onto the plasterboard just to make it look a bit tidyer. which would be the best way?, would i need to seal it first and if so how? Would normal emulsion work or would i need to use something else? thanks: You don't need a skim coat at all. Just use 1 to 2 coats of drywall primer (cheaper than regular primer) before painting. You could also paint without priming - but the result may be poor.

Q: Lots of water dripped through and there are stains in the plaster swirl ceiling. No visible bubbling or damage though besides the stains. Should I be worried about mold in an interior (no insulation) ceiling? Is it important to cut out the stained plasterboard ceiling?: If you are absolutely certain the leak has been fixed and there is no more water dripping... 1. Place a fan facing toward the ceiling for about a week or as long as it takes to make sure the ceiling is completely dry. 2. Paint the stained area with Killz. (Not sure of the spelling but it's a water stain retardant) Let it dry overnight, regardless of what the directions say telling you it's dry in less than two hours. 3. Paint the surface again with Killz 24 hours later. 4. Wait 24 hours to see if the stain is visible. If it is, paint another coat of Killz. 5. If the stain is undetectable, wait 48 hours and paint the ceiling with with the color of your choice. A second coat of paint may be required.

Q: im wanting to do a big art piece and though a plasterboard may be the best thing but i was wondering about when it comes to painting it is there anything id need to do before hand? and how would watercolour or acrilic paint look on it??: I would not recommend a pastel board for acrylic. Buy an ordinary canvas or Masonite board.
