- Q: Replace rippled plasterboard tape?My house's interior walls are all plasterboard - not plaster on brick. As is usual with modern houses (built 1995) the vertical joints at the corners of the walls are joined by plasterboard tape. Unfortunately due to differential expansion/contraction the tape has become rippled. As I am about to paint a bedroom, should I replace the rippled tape with new plasterboard tape and apply some kind of polyfilla, smooth and sand it, OR expect continued minor movement and fill the corners with some kind of decorators caulk instead of plasterboard tape?I should add I think the movement is because the walls are made of different materials - one is an end wall - plasterboard on brickwork, the other a sloping ceiling, presumably plasterboard nailed to batons?? So, different degrees of exapnsion / contraction according to the temperature rather than settlement.
- The first answer is good. But you should know about fiber glass wallboard tape. It is a lot stronger than the paper but you need to completely embed it in compound. Otherwise it will show when sanded.
- Q: Can I mount a 40 inch TV onto a plasterboard wall?
- It depends on what's behind the plasterboard, and if the TV is designed to be hung up like this. We wanted to do this with our flatscreen TV, so we got a mount to put it up like that. But the back of the TV didn't seem to have solid points to attach to. I called the manufacturer, and they said that if I tried to hang that model, it WOULD VOID THE WARRANTY. There was no safe way to hang that particular model. So - if you do have a TV that can be mounted on the wall, you need to find out what's behind the plasterboard. I have never been to the UK, so I don't know their building methods, so this may or may not be useful for you. If the house was built with standard wood framing, you need to find the studs. Go to a hardware store or home improvement store, and buy a stud finder. I've linked to one manufacturer below, but there are many. Once you find one, drill into the wall to be sure you are located on the stud. If you don't get wood or sawdust, but only plaster, you're in the wrong spot. Another way is to look at where electrical outlets are mounted. Those are usually nailed to the studs, so if you look on a vertical line just to the left or right of the outlets, you should find one. From that point, follow the directions on the rack or mount that you purchased.

- Yes. You should rent a sheetrock jack for doing ceilings, it will make the job much easier. Tape & mud Then textuerd ceiling paint or have popcorn texture sprayed on.

- Q: Im going to put up plasterboard for the first time and was told their is some kind of Adhesive to hold plasterboard on wall. It sounds easier than nails or screws because its onto a brick wall.Thanks.

- See your local labor costs is how much, if the carpentry wages by 200 yuan a day calculation, 3.5m below the light steel keel gypsum board partition 95 yuan / m2 or so. Gypsum board ceiling, hanging flat: 110 yuan / m2 left, two down the ceiling: 130 yuan / m2 or so, (pure light steel keel gypsum board ceiling, without 6mm flame retardant plywood at the end.
- Q: I recently had my bathroom refurbished and the installer put new plasterboard on the ceiling. I thought he would have skimmed it with some plaster but he tells me that they don't do that now and you can paint direct onto the plasterboard. - Not sure what you are trying to say , but just paint it. Primer is over used.I was a painter and when I would buy products at the store they would all try to sell me primer. I would tell them I'm a pro painter and they would smirk and walk off. Primer is only nessesary on interior in a kitchen with cooking residue , and to cover dark or bold colors. Or to make a bigger sale to a naive person. Don't be a sucker , just paint it.Maybe two coats. Top coat will act as primer.
