- Q: Cross stud is in the wrong place so can't fix to that. The cabinet is large and the ceiling is sloping (attic) so I'm restricted in where it can go. I can see a cross stud but it's not wide enough - when I marked the screw holes the screwdriver went straight through and didn't touch anything. Will toggle bolt type fixings be adequate don't want it too fall off wall with everything in it and break the basin and tiles!!
- Spider anchors. Which are a slitted metal tube with a nut fastened into on end of it. You read the picture instructions and follow that. Ask hardware store. There are also large twisy plastic ones which work as well by a different principle. Your choice. Ask the staff there OR Cut out the plaster board and put cross board in lower and reaffix the plasterboard OR Put on a plywood sheet on the wall first and screw that sheet to the cross boards and verticals. Use 3/4 -1 plywood. Then finish it off with a corner moulding all around the cabinet. Each way works. It depends on the amount of work you want to do

- Q: I have bought a new house and have noticed that the plaster walls have been plainted with water based paint without being sealed. I would now like to repaint and change the colour, how is the best way to do this? Should I apply a sealer over it, or just give it a couple of coats with some good paint?
- Firstly .. i can safely assume that the walls have been painted before as even if its a new build , the developer would have given them a couple of coats at least before putting the property on the market ...if the walls are sound and have no imperfections then just paint over them with your choice of covering ,staring at the top ( use a small brush to cut in at the corners etc ) ... work your way down and use a large brush or roller for efficiency .The only rooms in the flat that might need a bit of prep are the bathroom and kitchen ... grease on the walls will repell paint .. so it must be removed first ....trust me .. if you try to piant over it the walls will look patchy and it may even pull the paint from them thats already there ... this is where yer sugar soap will come in handy ... wipe over the surface lightly ( you'll find the top of the walls need it most as heat rises and the grease goes with it lol )..allow it to dry out then follow as before ... hope this helps

- Q: I'm using these 'wall anchor' bolt things to hold stuff up on the wall. They're the ones that slot through a drilled hole and then when you tighten the screw in them, the part behind the wall gets compressed until it presses against the back of the wall. That's probably irrelevant though...These wall anchors are rated to hold 10kg when used in 10mm thick plasterboard walls. I'm using them in a fibro cement wall which is approx 6mm thick. Seeing as fibro cement walls are way stronger than plasterboard, would you have any idea what the wall anchors could support in them? 20kg? 30kg?I know this is going to be pretty hard to answer accurately, but any educated guesses would be great! Thanks
- fibro cement may be stronger but i would guess it is more brittle too. it may crack when you tighten the anchors if you can find a couple of studs and screw directly to these it would help

- Q: Im doing a loft conversion and have got to the boarding out stage, i need to buy a load of plasterboard but have found wallboard and baseboard are cheaper. should i go for the cheaper baseboard or pay the extra for plasterboard
- hi wallboard and plaster broad is the same thing. if your in a loft you need the fire rated type this is 5/8 thick gypsum makes it baseboard is the board the go after the wallboard at the bottom to cover crack between the wallboard and the floor 30 yrs master carpenter
