- Q: How have a good gypsum board wall open
- In the place you want to open a window to break open a piece to see what is inside the bottom of the skeleton. - Q: can you put a punch bag on plasterboard?
- Obviously you must mean plasterboard on brick? I am not certain but i am guessing this will cause cracks around the wall bracket and after time make cracks down the wall. Best answer if you could please.
- Q: The top room in my house has got a ceiling in pretty bad shape. The house roof is ok, but over time the pressure has created a myriad of small cracks. Filling them up one by one is a huge job, so I have two choices: 1) apply a new plasterboard to the ceiling. 2) re-do the ceiling, take off the old one and put a new one.1) sounds an easier solution, but the builder wants to do 2) to avoid cracks reappearing. What would you recommend?
- If your house is old, like mine, then the roof beams may not be substantial and are more prone to bending under weight. That will just contribute to the plaster cracking so option 2 would be better. The upside is if you put in big enough beams you would be able to floor the attic for storage. If the existing beams are man enough then screw new plasterboard onto beams without removing existing plaster.

- Gypsum's solubility in water is quite limited and is also retrothermal, but it would be slightly basic. As a solid, it is technically calcium sulfate dihydrate, a hydrated salt.

Do you use a special paste/glue as won't wallpaper paste (or paint as an alternative) soak into it? - 1. Prep the wall by sealing it. Mix PVA with water about 50/50, and paint this on and let it dry, then do it again with a second coat. This will stop the natural absorbency of the chipboard from soaking the water out of the wallpaper adhesive (causing it to fail to set correctly). That way, later coats of wallpaper will stick. 2. Final prep: wash the dry, PVA-sealed surface with a coat of wallpaper adhesive that has been mixed too thin, so that after it dries there is a very thin coating of adhesive on the surface of the wall. 3. Apply lining paper horizontally onto the prepped dry wall in the normal way with wallpaper adhesive mixed as per the packet instructions. Allow to dry totally. 4. Wallpaper in the normal way. This is exactly the same procedure if the chipboard is not raw but has a veneer skin. You still need the PVA coat - on veneered board it isn't to compensate for the absorbency of the chipboard, but to compensate for the fact that wallpaper paste won't stick to naked veneered chipboard NB choose your wallpaper carefully - many are not suitable for the steamy atmosphere in a bathroom and will peel off after a few weeks

- You could get some spackle and a putty knife and try to fill and sand it that way.. or some joint compound and a trowel (watch some youtube videos on how) and sand it and paint it.
- Q: I have taken the old tiles off and scraped away the old adhesive, but in the process some of the paper coating (of the plasterboard) has come away in places; 95% of it looks ok but there are a couple spots where the plaster is showing through.Can I just put the adhesive on and use it as a filler too or should I be priming the plasterboard with something before I start putting on the adhesive and tiling ?OR what..I'm not after perfection here but I don't fancy having to re-tile it again in a couple of years because the tiles start falling off.
- it will be fine to just re-tile over the plasterboard...my son is doing just that in his kitchen & his walls are not perfect either....all will be hidden by the new tiles & they will stay on if you use the correct tile adhesive.
- Q: hi i am going to put wallboard up in my girlfriends shop...i was going to use 2by 2 timber studding....but some one said you can get alliminium studding...any 1 know anything about this or any links to websites

- Q: I recently had my bathroom refurbished and the installer put new plasterboard on the ceiling. I thought he would have skimmed it with some plaster but he tells me that they don't do that now and you can paint direct onto the plasterboard. As the outer coat of plasterboard seems to be a type of paper I am a bit worried about painting direct onto the plasterboard. Any views, hints etc.
