- Q: Three building materials, plasterboard, brick, and wood, all the same thickness and area, are sandwiched to form a wall. Temperatures are 27 degrees Celsius at the inside plasterboard surface and 0 degrees celsius at the outside wood surface. Find the temperature where the plasterboard meets the brick and where the brick meets the wood.k for plasterboard = .40k for brick = .70k for wood = .2
- 1/0.4+1/0.7+1/.2 = 7.5+1/.7 or about 8.93 the plasterboard drops 27*2.5/8.93 C : about 7.7C so temperature at plasterboard/brick is around 19.3 C the wood drops twice as much about 15.2C so brick-wood interface is around 15.2C. Appropriate numerical precision when the conductivities are given to 2 significant figures means your answers should be about 19C and 15C. The brick is awful! Have a look at the link below; even thermal grease isn't much worse than this brick but the values do seem to be pretty typical.
- Q: Is plasterboard another name for drywall?
- Plasterboard Vs Drywall
- Q: I'm using these 'wall anchor' bolt things to hold stuff up on the wall. They're the ones that slot through a drilled hole and then when you tighten the screw in them, the part behind the wall gets compressed until it presses against the back of the wall. That's probably irrelevant though...These wall anchors are rated to hold 10kg when used in 10mm thick plasterboard walls. I'm using them in a fibro cement wall which is approx 6mm thick. Seeing as fibro cement walls are way stronger than plasterboard, would you have any idea what the wall anchors could support in them? 20kg? 30kg?I know this is going to be pretty hard to answer accurately, but any educated guesses would be great! Thanks
- fibro cement may be stronger but i would guess it is more brittle too. it may crack when you tighten the anchors if you can find a couple of studs and screw directly to these it would help
- Q: Can I mount a 40 inch TV onto a plasterboard wall?
- It depends on what's behind the plasterboard, and if the TV is designed to be hung up like this. We wanted to do this with our flatscreen TV, so we got a mount to put it up like that. But the back of the TV didn't seem to have solid points to attach to. I called the manufacturer, and they said that if I tried to hang that model, it WOULD VOID THE WARRANTY. There was no safe way to hang that particular model. So - if you do have a TV that can be mounted on the wall, you need to find out what's behind the plasterboard. I have never been to the UK, so I don't know their building methods, so this may or may not be useful for you. If the house was built with standard wood framing, you need to find the studs. Go to a hardware store or home improvement store, and buy a stud finder. I've linked to one manufacturer below, but there are many. Once you find one, drill into the wall to be sure you are located on the stud. If you don't get wood or sawdust, but only plaster, you're in the wrong spot. Another way is to look at where electrical outlets are mounted. Those are usually nailed to the studs, so if you look on a vertical line just to the left or right of the outlets, you should find one. From that point, follow the directions on the rack or mount that you purchased.

- North new building materials dragon card, Armstrong, can be resistant to Fu can. Dragon card with more.
- Q: Hi Guys,I am just about to purchase these rawl plugs on OKorder.Do you think these will hold some heavy items like shelves, curtains etc.
- but I've always just used the heavier duty ones to be on the safe side. The plugs you have highlighted have little by means of retention except for the actual screw - there is nothing to stop it ripping out of the plasterboard under heavy strain.
- Q: I've got a heavy bathroom cabinet with mirror to an internal plasterboard wall. I was thinking of using plastic plasterboard plugs, for the two screws that hold the whole cabinet.is this going to be strong enough?
- We sell a lot of heavy wall mount cabinets for the bathroom. Safety must come first. It is always recommended and many times required that you use heavy duty anchor screws that are driven right into the wood wall studs. You also dont want your paster wall coming down. You want the weight supported by the studs which are holding up the house, and not by the plaster. Depending on the size of the cabinet and considering studs are 15 1/2 inches apart on center, you need to figure out how many studs you have behind the cabinet. You should have one stud for every 12 inches of cabinet basically. A 24 inch cabinet should have at least 2 studs behind it. Centering it based on the studs will factor into it. You need to at least get one or 2 studs behind it. Inside the cabinet you will want to screw it in on the top and bottom to bear the load. If I were installing a 24 inch cabinet I would want 2 screws on top into the 2 studs and 2 screws on the bottom. You can use a stud finder to locate wall studs. You can buy screws and anchor bolts at your local hardware store. They cost so little it is not even worth buying on line. For instance when we are installing kitchen cabinets we can do an entire kitchen with one box of 2 1/2 inch wood screws costing $6.
- Q: Can gypsum board be insulated?
- Gypsum board insulation is also insulated, widely used.
- Q: After moving into my new house, i have noticed that there are lots of places on my celings where the plaster finish has fallen off where the nails are underneath. i have tried already to repair with pollyfiller but the patches never bonded end soon fell off.The heads of the nails have a textured finish, so i think they are the proper nails.I am desperate to sort this problem out so i can begin decorating, so all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
- You Should apply a good wall sealant before you try to fill, two coats may be needed this will seal the plaster and the nail heads.Polyfiller will be fine, Good Luck P.S. As this maybe exspensive and the area is small you could use a oil base undercoat instead.
