- hey! firstly, u must not use hot or warm water to clean rugs, it will fade the colors. put a small empty Tub under the efective area of the rug and pour cold water on that top of the spot. all the water will desolve in the rug and then gets into the tub under that spoted rug. - For a stain that set that long I recommend that you bite the bullet and rent a steamvac from a local gricery store. You can usually get one with cleaner for 24hrs for around $20-$30. Make sure you let it dry all the way. All that stickyness from the pop has probably attracted all kinds of stubborn dirt. Good Luck!!

- Right away dump on some salt to prevent the wine from setting in. Try club soda, pour it on the entire moist area, the carbonated bubbles help to lift the stain... dab don't rub, with an absorbent cloth to sop up the rest of the red pigment... if you're like me and don't keep club soda around you can use white wine to counteract the red!
