What are the materials?

- Yes, you should I mean when you have company your room is going to be their impression of what kind of person you are. If I stepped into your room and smelt cigarette I wouldent sit on the sofa... I dont smoke so I would notice VS someone who is a smoker it wont bother them as much. If you had a family member come over who hasent seen you in like forever im pretty sure you wouldent want them to think Wow this guy/girl is nasty his room smells like smoke. To me a person who smells like smoke is yucky, but again I dont smoke so to me and other non-smokers it would but for someone who smokes it wont.

- My daughter bought the Chateau D'Ax leather sofa at Macy's about five years ago. I think it's called the Opie or something similar. Paid in the neighborhood of $1000. It's the primary place they crash at night so it sees a lot of use. It looks like new. I'm pretty impressed that it's stood up so well because they don't baby it. Because they liked it so much, my mom and dad also bought one just like it but in a different color (special order) about 4 years ago, and it shows absolutely no wear and is super comfortable too. Ok....it's my mom and dad, and they aren't hard on anything, so it's not a great test. But still......they love it and it's a great napping sofa. For the price, I'd buy one in a minute if I had a place for it. Love the chair and ottoman that goes with it too.

- It all depends on the sofa bed. Futons for instance are fine, they have a quite hard mattress, and they are OK for using regularly, but maybe not for many years. Other sofa beds are usually for occasional use and therefore not necessarily good for your back etc. You could get a futon and top it with a reasonably good mattress, as this would also be higher and therefore more easy to get in and out of bed. I'm sure that would be better, but it would not save you much space in the room.

- This is a really difficult task to accomplish even if you had some previous upholstery experience. The advice that anyone can give you without seeing your furniture might not be 100% accurate because different skills or techniques are required for different detailing. Piping and trim might or might not be required, your sofa might or might not have a skirt, roll arms are treated slightly differently than square arms or your model might even have wood arms, if the seat is one large cushion you have a different task ahead than if there are 2 or three smaller seat cushions... If you are determined to try this on your own, which I wouldn't recommend, go to your local library or bookstore and find some good books on reupholstering -- you can bookmark all the pages that are relevant to your situation, and keep it in front of you for visual reference while working. Having sofas reupholstered is quite expensive and not always worth it, to be honest. The fabric and other items required to reupholster a sofa often exceed $400 (not including labour). Repairing springs or sofa feet increases the cost even if you're doing it yourself. It doesn't make sense to spend $400 or more to reupholster an older sofa that you can replace with a new one of similar quality for $700. Good luck!

- Suede brushes - just like you use on your boots and shoes. Check with your sofa retailer for specific directions. They may have the brushes otherwise a good shoe store will be able to provide.

- I think, to start off with, that you should get a rug with a neutral color. I know the green would match the kind of beige color sofa and the plants, but I think a little bit of contrast makes the most statement. If you've got a wood floor, which I think you might have, I think either a flat rug or a fringe rug would look good. Maybe one like we have, it has a beige-tan color for the base, along with a dark chestnut brown and a sage green. Its a design of a flower, and I think it completes our look (though far from modern, ours is more of an outdoor, ozarks design.) And I think the coffee table would be a nice touch. White goes with everything and besides that white complements and contrasts darker colors. :) Good luck!
- Q:Sofa is chocolate brown leather, ottoman is a swirly/marble chestnut color. Both pieces have similar legs.
- It depends on how much lighter - you would want a contrast to set the ottoman off better. I would not go with a dark chocolate couch and a caramel ottoman, for example. Instead, opt for a butter yellow or a cream - it would be fabulous!

- I just bought a beautiful sofa bed with blanket storage under the seat . It is red corduroy and has chrome arms and legs . It very retro and trim line . It resembles a seat in back of the old Greyhound buses . I got it at Value City for $600.00 this past April , They carry really nice sofa beds , Futons ,and Castro convertibles .
