- Q: Ok, I cant offer much help but I have wanted one of these chairs for a while but I don't know what it's called. Here is the only picture I could find without the name.
- It's hard to tell in the picture, but it appears to be a pair of high-backed wing chairs. The style of the back with the puckers and buttons is called tufted. This style of a low-backed sofa is called a chesterfield. You can look up images online to see examples. The arm is rolled, and the trim is called nail head trim. And of course, the material is leather. These chairs look like the type that would be found in a fancy home library or in an elite country club setting or maybe even an exclusive pub. I don't think a similar chair would be hard to find. But if the back is as high as it appears to be, that may be a hard part to come up with.
- Q: We are ordering office chairs but our desk height is 33 3/4 in. from floor to counter top. Which is too high for our current chairs. I have pain in my elbows and wrists from typing with my arms bent up to the desk. I don't know how chair height is measured so I can't tell what height to order for proper height. - Office Chair height is measured from the floor to the highest point on the back of the chair. You might ask where ever you are ordering from what the distance from the seat to the floor is at its lowest point as well as highest point. Your desk height is a bit higher than a standard desk, which is 29 1/2 inches high. You might consider a task stool for your seating. You can order one that looks almost exactly like an office chair except it has a ring about the base to rest your feet on so that you can raise your seat up higher and not develop back problems from your feet hanging or not being firm on the floor. - Hi Kevin.. A standard therapy for phobias is called systematic desensitization. It involves a series of closer and closer approximations. You'd first learn to achieve a relaxed state through visual imaging or progressive relaxation. Once you learned to relax you'd be presented, while relaxed, with a distant and relatively nonthreatening approximation of a chair. Perhaps simply saying the word chair.. or looking at a photograph of a chair. Once you can remain relaxed while seeing the image or hearing the word you'd be exposed to a closer approximation.. perhaps seeing a chair on the other side of the room. When you can maintain relaxation you might be asked to approach the chair while maintaining a relaxed state. Eventually you'd be able to approach and sit in a chair while maintaining your relaxed state. The principle is that you can't maintain two opposite states.. fear/anxiety and relaxation at the same time. You might try this yourself over a period of days/weeks but having the help of a psychologist is likely to make things work out more easily. It works. Regards.

- Both of them, it depends which arena you are in.
- Q: If I have a CIS cyclohexane (with 2 cis substituents), would that translate into a CIS chair conformation (with both substituents pointing in the same direction)?? Or are they completely unrelated?Because when I try converting cyclohexanes to chairs, I end up getting the trans conformation...The lowest energy conformation of cis-1-4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)cyclohexane is not a chair. Why?^^For the above question, the answer is because ONE of the t-butyl groups is in an axial position...BUT when I draw the cis cyclohexane and convert it to a chair, I get BOTH t-butyl groups in opposite-direction axial positions...which, I know, isn't the cis conformation.Is it not possible to convert from cyclohexanes to chairs? Like, having a cis cyclohexane DOES NOT translate into a cis chair conformation??
- For your first question, you are likely drawing your chair conformer correctly, but interpreting it incorrectly. Are you equating equatorial and axial positions as trans? Cis substituents are sometimes in equatorial and axial positions - you can tell that they are cis if BOTH are the upper or lower subsituent. The substituents are trans if one is in the upper position, and one is in the lower position. I wish I could attach a picture to this answer to show you better. For your second question, you are probably drawing it incorrectly. One will be axial, and one will be equatorial. Remember to number your carbons so that you are drawing your substituent on the right one. tert-butyl groups are very bulky and will add a lot of steric hindrance to your molecule. In this case, a boat conformer will actually be more stable! Cis cyclohexanes do translate into chair conformations, but this particular molecule is more stable as a boat.

- I would not use oil since it could ruin someones clothes. Varnish or Poly is best. Shellac turns yellow with time. All cost about the same.
